as for not having a team in the tri-state market there is a team called rbny

but i dont get you so you will take a train/car for two hours to the bronx from queens to see a game and you wouldnt go to harrison when its half the time????

i think the bad air is getting to the nyc people....

I personally think Queens would be the best for many reasons. I guess we will have to wait to see what happens.

Thats the thing, you cant implode buildings in NYC. But they can use Shea and work with it to build a stadium. Knock off the upper deck, close up the outfield and fix it up.

Southpaw, you know whats funny? Everyone acts like Shea is a decrepit pile of garbage. Its not run down at all. I mean if they moved the stands, which reside on rails, and then placed the grass for the field we could be playing soccer next season. Dont you think? You and I both know that Shea is fine. Wilpon, like all business owners, just wants to improve his stadium. Shea is perfectly fine for soccer. It has all the correct dimensions for a soccer field and is FULLY controlled by Wilpon and the Mets. Thats really all MLS cares about. They want to make sure that all I/O make the most money possible, via controlling all aspects of their teams and stadia. Thats the major problem with RBNJ. They dont control anything. Basically they are second class citizens at the Swamp. That's what you get when you play in Jersey and want to call yourself NY. lol I couldnt resist. Citifield is opening up in April 2009. I dont see any reason why we couldnt be playing soccer at the same time. MLS IN 2009!!!!!

i think the possiblity of using shea for some period of time is a reason why the Wilpons have emerged as the front runners for nyc2. the team wouldn't get raveged by having to pay to rent the place,if they want to build a sss, the team can use shea untill the new digs are ready. and if citi field is any indication on how soon the Wilpons can get things done, then a 20K stadium might be no trouble at all. and of course, if reconfiguring shea for soccer could be cheaper than building something from scratch then i'm sure that this is also an attractive factor for this possiblity to come true. though i can understand if the time has come to say good by to shea.

i know the nay sayers are trying to spin it otherwise, but the bottom line is the Don said it himself, the location makes it a an "ideal" place for nyc2. or what else did he say, ah yes, " A PERFECT STORM".

Yes, his words exactly. "A perfect storm". Getting back to the stadium. I dont think that they need to do a thing to shea, except install the field. The lower seats rotate and voila soccer. It's s time to awaken the sleeping giant!

I remember the plans when they are going to build Citi Field. A section of the new ball park will be taking a section of where Shea is now. More like the RF corner and parts of RCF & CF. When Shea is taken down the parking lot will be apart of it.

Now if they build a Soccer stadium in the parking lot good for you, but if they decide to play the games in the new Mets ballpark, I hate to tell you guys this. I work with many Mets fans who would be against it. I showed them your section here on Big Soccer. They all told me their opinions. They told me they would protest it happening in their new ballpark if the Wilpons set it up like this.

These are the Mets baseball only fans. They also told me that the Wilpon's are just saying it, they wouldn't go into MLS. I'm only telling you what they told me. I'm not making this up. These are Mets fans I work with who are anti-MLS.

Exactly, they are anti-MLS. How would they know that Wilpon wouldn't invest in the league? If they are anti-MLS, then they wouldn't know that the Wilpons have been mentioned by Garber as an expansion candidate.

i doubt that the Don would go for the idea of sharing Citi Field for any long period of time as well. from what i understand the league is tired of having to see it's teams play on turfs outlined with some other sports boundaries on there on home field.if anything nyc2 under the Wilpons would most likely use shea untill the time when a new sss is ready or modify shea to be more of a soccer friendly once the mets leave.

oh yeah, protesting if citi field is used for mls? to be honest, i also don't agree with that being the end all solution to nyc2's home field but, PROTESTING!!!!!????..........................................................come on.

due respect but as Mets fans don't they have enough on their plate to worry about? (to all my fellow Borough Boys who r Mets fans, i didn't mean anything bad by that)

I wasnt saying that they would use CITIField. God knows thats going to be an aweful venue for soccer. I was talking about Shea stadium. The stadium converts into a football field with ease. Thats why I was suggesting it's use.
Nothing more.

I understand what you are saying because of the days the NFL's NY Jets shared Shea with the Mets. But the thing I said of the plans for the new ballpark is that part of Shea where it stands from the seats in the RF corner till CF as well as the playing field and those seats you mentioned are apart of the construction of the new Citi Field. So you might have a problem. Shea will be torn down.

Shea will be torn down.

Yeah I know but its tear down date is not set in stone. Maybe we can save it, somehow. Both stadiums are very close to each other so Shea going is very likely but MAYBE not until after they build a SSS. Shea can be the temp home. Just a thought.
