1) Cosmos. the name has tradition. However i realize some would rather keep that name in the past so my alternative choice would be........

2) Inter New York. No specific reason, just like how it sounds.

******** the Cosmos. What's dead is dead, time to move on.

New team=new identity, I sure as hell ain't a Cosmos fan, and a lot of my generation have no reason to support a team that single handedly destroyed the NASL.

Please, please say no to any and all ill-advised mash-ups of "Queens" and "Rangers" that end up looking like Queens ____ Rangers. Though I'm sure it started as a joke name idea somewhere, it's not particularly funny after all, and as a QPR fan let me say that if you are bent on being derivative, the R's are probably the last team in the world you want be derivative of.

And no Cosmos.

Some one needs to learn some history, because I am tired of people claiming that the Cosmos were the reason the NASL failed. The real reason was owners that could not afford to spend the money needed to sustain a team full of over paid aging european stars. That coupled with over expansion into cities that would never able to support a major league team and a diluted player pool was the death of the NASL. The Cosmos may have been the club which many tired to model themselves after but they could afford to lose the money where as many others could not. And that my friend was the death of the NASL.

N.B.: - I'don't care about colors so I just used the flag. (Yes, I know they are Mets colors so Yankee fans won't like them blah blah blah.)
Atari as sponsor is just a place holder.

How about the New York Athletic Club (NYAC). You would already have a REAL sponsor, and it would be one of the only legitimate claims to being called "AC" in the MLS. http://www.nyac.org/

I also like Royal Queensborough FC. Kinda corney I know, but I'm trying.

Of the names on the poll I like Atlantic FC, it reminds me of the Atlantic Baseball Club, which I believe was based in Brooklyn, so if the club is going to be in Queens I don't see any relevance, especially since Atlantic played when Brooklyn was its own city.

New York City FC - For those who like your names with a little Euro/Brit flavor, you'd finally end up with a team named "City." Plus, the power of the New York City name (as opposed to just New York) would carry more weight internationally.

My issue is that you just know that people will call us the Burros  I do like that Big Apple/soccer ball logo.

New York Sports Club (http://www.mysportsclubs.com/regions/NYSC.htm) also works. I like New York AC, but I foresee a lawsuit unless somehow there is an ownership/sponsorship agreement.

The "Football Club," "Athletic Club," "Soccer Club" and all other similar names seem pretty tacky and ridiculous to me, as long as the team isn't anything like a real "club". At least many of the Old World ACs and FCs you're trying to reflect had a club structure in their early days, which can't be said here (and won't ever be the case here.) Let the FCs, ACs, SCs, SSs, SVs, etc., go.

I don't really buy this reasoning. Yes, it's true that the use of the word "club" meant something specific 100 years ago when these teams were being founded. But at this point in history, "club" can also mean "sports team" -- language is dynamic and meanings for words change over time. Here is the US, the term "club" is used not infrquently to describe our sports teams even if none of them reflects the historical setup of a club.

All that said, I am not one who like using the "Euro style" names like "<name of city> FC", so I'm fine with avoiding that type of nomenclature. I just don't agree with this being the reason.

PS: my choice would be "Empire Soccer Club" -- just as the original name for Metro was going to be.

As much as you, as a no-good DC supporting bastard, may want to see even more confusion up north on 90, it would be a damningly stupid thing to muddy the waters by giving a new team the same acronym (and name, really) as a charter MLS supporters club. Next idea.

Personally, I like "Gotham" over "Empire".
