What's this I read about the Modena fans protesting about the acquisition of some player from Como? Did I get that right? My understanding of Italian is not the greatest ...

Yes, you did.
Modena and Como are arch-rivals, since we long battled in the last 3 years, inside and outside the field.
During season 2000/2001, we had a head-to-head till the last round, when we got the first place and went directly to serie B (from serie C), while Como had to win the playoff to be promoted. Beside that, in late 2000 happened that Ferrigno, Como player, gave a punch to Bertolotti, Modena midfielder. Bertolotti fall down, hit the head and, after some days in "coma" (don't know how say it in english), he woke up but he had to stop to play, while Ferrigno is coming back to the field right in these days.
During season 2001/2002, both Modena and Como got promoted to serie A, but this time they got the first place.
Finally, season 2002/2003, Modena kept serie A while Como got relegated to serie B.
Now, some Como players (at the moment 4, but they could become 5 or 6: Stellini, Corrent, Allegretti and Music, standby for Rossi and Amoruso) sign up for Modena, but this is not the real deal: the problem is that, in exchange for these players, our chairman will give the 30/35% of the club to mr. Preziosi, who was Como chairman and now is Genoa chairman. So the problem is mr. Preziosi (he sells toys with the mark "Giochi Preziosi", Preziosi Toys), a business man who has not a good fame in Modena and suburbs, and to be honest he is no more famous in Como too, try ask. Years ago he bought Saronno (a small soccer team), then he made Saronno close and bought Como: recently he tried to buy Napoli but at the end he bought Genoa and now he is about to sell Como too.
What is our fear? That he could, someday, buy the 100% of the team (he has money enought to do it) and then make us close and move the best players to Genoa, his first team or somewhere else. That's what most of Modena fans think and that's why some protested on monday against the chairman: good players are welcome, not the same to the toys-man Preziosi (I'll add that last year, when Como was already relegated, he promised a money prize to Como players if they would beat Modena, who was still fighting ... just to let you guess what kind of nice person he is.)
As we used to chant, home and away ...
DON'T BUY PREZIOSI TOYS!

Latest news: Music still has to sign (maybe today), while for Rossi & Amoruso there are money problems to solve.
Yeah, I forgot to tell before that, beside Como, even Genoa is one of our worst rivals ..........

Thanks for the update. I remember the incident with Bertolotti, but I didn't recall that it was between Como and Modena. That was quite a nasty thing.
Anyway - if I see any "Preziosi" toys sold around here, I'll think of you and be sure not to buy them. :)

News: midfielder Music has signed and he is already at the summer camp with other players.
About Bertolotti, yes that thing had a big "echo", we got msg about it from Us too.
And then, the precious toys (Preziosi in italian means precious) http://www.giochipreziosi.it/
DON'T BUY PREZIOSI' TOYS!!!

Massimiliano, where have you been? The last thread you started I told you I was now a converted Modena fan, and you left. Bad news about the whole Como situation.
DONT BUY PREZIOSI TOYS!

Hi Double!
yes I have been away for a while, after the end of the season. Recently I have been @ work much more than @ home, and the site for the new season is still under construction.
Anyway, glad to find you again, I started this thread to make people know something about Modena, beside the big teams and some other team with many fans in the Us (Reggina, Napoli ...)
I found 2 new fans here on bigsoccer, just you and another one, Iason it seems, but I didn't hear about him in the last weeks.
About this deal, as I wrote, the problem is not the trade itself (players <-> stock options), but the man who now keeps the 35% of Modena: just Preziosi. Most of us agree that we needed those players, just to enforce the team (we still need a striker to be honest, the club is working about it), probably without some new players we would have been the first team in 2004/2005 Serie B ... but we fear about what Preziosi could do with his 35%. Years ago, he fired out Saronno to buy Como: recently he bought Genoa and is about to sell Como. We don't want to be the next in this list, that's why this trade made so big troubles here. And Preziosi himself, when press told him that people from Modena didn't welcome this trade, replied that he didn't like Modena fans too!
Let's wait and we'll see. Meanwhile, we got to support the team: new players from Como say to feel glad that Modena fans encouraged them during the training camp. Thta's obvious, they are not the real problem, they are just here to help us keeping serie A.
Romanian tour is about to start, we'll play 2 friendly matches on August 1 and 2 in Romania, then the team will come back in Montese, just 50 km far from Modena, to continue the pre-season training.
I'll post here the results ...
see ya!

Steaua Bucarest (Romania) 0 - MODENA 0
I heard that the canaries played pretty well and almost scored with our striker, Vignaroli. Hope to get more news tomorrow on newspapers.
Always tomorrow, another friendly game against Bacua (Romania), then Modena will come back to Italy to continue the training.

Well I read newspapers this morning ...
At Bucarest Arena, there were about 20k people (but with free entry) to see the friendly between Steaua and Modena: really a good crowd. There were 20 fans from Modena too, they are something like heroes in my opinion! :-)
Steaua was in good form, their season begins within 1 week: Modena still has time to improve, but our coach, Malesani, said the guys played as he asked them to play so he was satisfied.
Steaua had a couple of good chances, Modena too with defender Ungari by header and striker Vignaroli, the final result is 0-0 but many good signs from this game. That's ok!

3 Balestri Iacopo
4 Ponzo Paolo
5 Mayer Mauro

In the previous posts, I forgot to talk about the stadium: I was too much busy reading about SSS threads all around Us and I didn't mention the one I have 300 meters far from home (that's true, I live 300 meters far from stadium ...).
Anyway, we are completely rebuilding the stadium, which within a month will get the capacity of about 21k.
Last summer was built our "Curva Sud", just 5 meters behind the net (great thing!): this summer we are rebuilding the rest of the stadium, which at the end will look like an english style venue.
Begin from this: click here and enjoy our mainstand
