Andy @ Liverweb (http://www.liverweb.org.uk/) sent this today

There will be a mosaic this weekend on the Kop for the home game
against West Ham.

The mosaic is part of celebrations of 100 years of the Spion Kop.
Today's Kop may well be very different to that original conder bank
with a massive roof over it but it's still 'The Kop'.

This week the Liverpool Echo are running some stories on the Kop.

How Kop tuned in to glory days (http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liverpoolfc/0100news/tm_objectid=17610578%26method=full%26siteid=50061%26headline=how%2dkop%2dtuned%2din%2dto%2dglory%2ddays-name_page.html)

IN THE summer of 1906, Liverpool were celebrating their second league championship.

Crowds at Anfield were onthe up and the directors - led by chairman John Houlding and secretary John McKenna - decided that the fans deserved a better home.

Work on reconstructing Anfield began in May. Designed by architect Archibald Leitch and erected by EF Blakeley and Company of Vauxhall Iron-works, numerous improvements were carried out including a new brick and cinder banking at the Walton Breck Road end of the ground. Contrary to popular belief and prompting from LB, I was NOT at the opening ceremonies.

Now I know that it's all a joke!!! Archibald Leitch wasn't this Cary Grant's real name?
(Alt spelling)

Oh shit! I've just realized that I've been on the Kop standing and sitting for more than half of its life.
Now I do feel like an old bandwaggon-jumper-onner.

From Wikipedia:

"Archibald Alec Leach (January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986), better known by his screen name, Cary Grant, was a British born film actor."

So phonetically the same, but not exactly, eh?

I was feeling a wee bit nostalgic so I dug up some old videos of and about Liverpool. There's lots of great stuff in them, but this little bit never fails to bring tears to my eyes. This is April 30th 1994, and it was the last game played in front of a standing Kop before it was turned into an all-seater stand. Many legends were brought before the crowd before the game, but when Fagan walked out arm-in-arm with widows of Shankly and Paisley, it was something else. Mrs. Shankly passed on 5 years ago, I believe, while Mrs. Paisley is apparently still alive.

Oh, and Julian Dicks scored the last ever goal in front of the standing Kop. Tell your missus you were laughing at that when she wonders why you got teary-eyed watching the video. :D
