 I want Phoenix!!

I am back!!

Welcome back.

From what I've been reading, the next expansion announcement could come during MLS Cup Week in Garber's state of the league address. Other sources(none from the league) think it will come sometime before March '08.

There is a fun thread on expansion(one of many) at Soccer by Ives (http://njmg.typepad.com/sbi/2007/09/tgif-what-would.html). You'll notice that Phoenix isn't getting much love there.

The article says 2009?????

my mistake, should have said Seattle will begin MLS play potentially by 2009, which I take to mean definitely by 2010.

MLS plans to expand to 16 teams by 2010 and could feature as many as 18 clubs by 2012.

This article seems to say:
Seattle 2009
16th team 2010
17th and 18th team 2012

Is that taking into account San Jose already being in?

Here is a brief synopsis (http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20071116&content_id=129731&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp) concerning MLS expansion in Don Garber's 2007 MLS State of the League address.

Unfortunately, Phoenix is conspicuously absent among the cities mentioned for the next round of expansion.
A small excerpt from the address:

"In alphabetical order, Garber gave an update on expansion possibilities in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia, Montreal, New York (a second club), Portland, St. Louis and Vancouver."

I really want Soccer * real football * to be the best in USA but MLS is not seeing the quality but the money..... and remember with quality money comes even easier...

Miami already had their chance and no one supported them....Florida had 2 team and they thought that having Tampa and Miami that was going to create a rivalty between them, ups they closed both of them down.
and now they want to bring it again, cubans dont like soccer all they like is their stupid baseball...

Atlanta, come on, do we really know how good is the audience in that city for soccer?

Las Vegas? they are going to have a casino inside the stadium? every body sleeps during the day =)

Portland, they don't even support the blazzers....

New York, come on they already have a team...no space to build stadium unless they want to use the yankeess..

Canadians cities...I hate that....specially having a team outside the country... a city over an american city...bad bad...

if they do all these I rather keep watching the Mexican League,
1. all the games for free
2. almost every game its on TV, univision, galavision, telefutura, fox sports, espn
3. they all in Spanish :D and the commentaros have a passion and knowledge about Soccer when talking about soccer....
4. they have some really good games, chivas vs america, cruz azul vs pumas clasicos...
5. its so easy to go to mexico and watch a game and come back the next day =)

So MLS needs to watch those clues...me personally I will forget about MLS not pay again my dumb MLSnet to watch game on pc...and mls Kick from cable company....

so long my friends.... I was really happy to see a team here in Phoenix but now I see that I will have to keep my thoughts on Galaxy and when I travel to visit my parents then go see a live game....

Aguante Boca!

Boca #1....Boca Champions 2007 Tokyo Japan! =)

It works the other way too: with money, quality players can be lured to the league.

But they are rabid supporters of the Timbers

New York, come on they already have a team...no space to build stadium unless they want to use the yankeess..

PHX Soccer Development and Dana Gagnon are working very hard to put together a viable and realistic business plan for a successful soccer side in Phoenix. Obviously MLS is becoming a hot ticket in the sports market and there are other cities around the nation competing with us to land a franchise.

It is short-sighted to think that every thing will fall into place overnight. But we do have dedicated and passionate people such as Dana working to make MLS a reality and a success in Phoenix. I, for one, have a lot of confidence and excitement with PHX Soccer Development.

Soccer by Ives (http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/02/philadelphia-to.html) (and others) are reporting that Philadelphia will be announced as the 16th team in MLS, beginning play in 2010.

It appears that the final decision was a reaction to the state of Pennsylvania deciding to kick in around $45 million towards the construction of the new stadium complex in Chester, just south of Philadelphia.
