Anyone care to list names of players who play drunk? Friends of mine who played with Roberto Cabanas of Paraguay and former Boca Jrs and NY Cosmos used to play piss drunk. Also Houseman of Argentina WC team 74',78' used to play drunk. I've heard that Ortega of Argentina also loves his red wine. I recently tried it myself,it's true it works, you play less tense, inhibited. Therefore you play more creatively.

I have played hungover many a time while I was in high school if that counts for anything :)

I heard Tony Adams played very drunk very often and so did most of the English First Division during the 80's and early 90's.

I am not to sure if Best was drunk becasue he drank right before the games or he was still kicked in the a$$ from the night before at noon kickoffs the next day.

I also read some where that a player who played in the 70's said that him and his mates would stay out till 4 and 5 in the morning drinking the night before matches and still play better than the lads who went to bed at 9 that night.

I think much of the drinking/party culture has been stamped out in the really high level leagues I don't keep up with smaller countries but I know lots of players in/from Mexico love to blaze up a joint or two before their matches at almost every level;as a matter of fact I have a few friends that haven't played a game without being stoned since they were like 13.

a little marijuana seems to make me more creative on the pitch...i feel my body is way more loose and limber...never tried the red wine...

red wine with seltzer(red wine spritzer) works best and is a refreshing drink when you need a drink during a game.

I reckon players like Gazza,Ray Wilkins and Paul Merson had afew beers the night before the game.

Paul merson was addicted to everything...drugs ,gambling ,booze.....

Yeah, Mersons celebration is hilarious:D

Anybody from Arse before Wenger (1997) can fall at least close to this category

I hear Freddy Adu hits a Graffix bong up a couple of times before every match.
