I've made a thread just for people like you ;)

If you want good soccer now, I would advise Saint-Etienne...

I don’t know if I'm spelling this right, I think it was Lille Metropole, Marseille and then I thought maybe Bordeaux. Now there's a chance that I just made a fool of myself and I'm talking about teams that aren't even around, or the spelling isn’t even close to being correct, I have only seen Metropole play one time, and I may have heard the name wrong. And I don't have a clue what I'm talking about for the most part. If you have any input I would really appreciate it.

Sorry about the double post, but by the time I posted the other thing there was something else to reply to. "People like you", I didn't think that was going to lead to something good. Thank you for that. I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the day!

Name of the club of Lille is LOSC (Lille Olympique Sporting Club), Stadium Nord-Métropole is the name of the stadium. ;)
Keita, Bodmer, Odemwingie and others are gone and they have many young players. They can't do some good game anymore. It's a French basic 8-defenders-and-give-to-our-poor-striker type of play. It will be better in 2 or 3 years when they will get mature.
Well, for the clubs, it changes every year, in function of the coach. In France coaches are not considered as they should. Last year with Ricardo, Bordeaux was horrible to watch. Now there's Laurent Blanc who tries to do some beau jeu but far from something perfect.
Historically Saint-Etienne tries to do something very technical and beautiful to see. Last year they scored many great goals such as these:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xtt65_assevalenciennes-30-but-de-landrin_sport
Last year they had the biggest numbers of goals scored and took.
But Saint-Etienne is a very fickle team. They use to win 3-0 at home and to lose 0-3 away, to be caricatural.
Marseille would like to obey their motto droit au but (straight to the goal) but they have crappy coaches and players since so many years and except when they have a Ribéry you can never know what they will do. Gerets has just arrived so there will be changes, again...
Anyway, I recommand you to see Saint-Etienne/Marseille next Saturday. You'll see by yourself. ^^
Lyon had a wonderful game last year with Houllier. Now it's more difficult for them, but it's still one of the best if not THE best in France.

Wow! I love when people know wht there talking about. :)
I don't think I can see the game on Saturday, where I live I dont get to see many games.
I think I'm going to go with Marseille, for a few reasons.
#1. I was reading what you said about them on your other post, and you were saying that Zidane is God there. I love him. He is one of the major reasons I started watching FB.
#2. They will be playing Liverpool, I think on the 4th. And I will cheer for ALMOST anyone who is trying to beat them.
But Lille is still hanging in my mind....hmm....I will have an answer by the end of the night....or this week.

Zidane is a God because he's born in Marseille, but he never played for them ;) He was formed at Cannes and played at Bordeaux before signing at Juventus.
But Marseille has known other wonderful players, more than any other French team: from Larbi Ben Barek to Ribéry, by Waddle, Magnusson, Papin, Völler, Deschamps, Francescoli, Ravanelli, Blanc, Drogba, Barthez (not a great success for ManU but what a legend for OM) and so on.
You can watch Liverpool-Marseille, but you'll miss Samir Nasri (he's sick), the "new Zidane": he's wonderfully talented, he plays as a n°10, he's born in Marseille, he's from Algeria... ;)
Lille is a choice for the future and only for that. I though Manchester fans did hate them. :D Errr, maybe you should not support Saint-Etienne: they bought Tavlaridis this summer.

Saint-Etienne is out.
New-Zidane, Hm......that would take a lot for me to believe. Even though he didn't play for them, just hearing that people there think of him like that gave them like 99% of the vote.
Umm, now I'm going to sound dumb again. But what team was this directed at?
"I though Manchester fans did hate them." I'm guessing Liverpool.
It was probably really clear and I'm just being stupid about it :)

I meant Lille. Two years ago when they won with Acimovic 1-0 in the Stade de France, Manchester was eliminated from Champion's League and I've heard last year that Manchester fans hate Lille's Greek defender Tavlaridis (who now plays at Saint-Etienne), apparently for some kicks he uses to give. :D

Oh, okay. I wasn't around two years ago. So, lille's out too! I only have to eliminate one more.

Why are we screaming Metz!?! Haha, I will re-phrase. I didn't know anything about soccer 2 years ago.

I would pick Lille. The are an up and coming team. They are young, but will be good in a couple years. They are also building a new 50,000 seat stadium. Hopefully this will bring in more money for better players.:)

on the criterion "best place to visit" lyon is obviously great ;), toulouse is also very nice i've given to understand... but lille is probably tops. i love that town! and even though i go there alone on business, i've always struck up conversations and ended up having great evenings.

i keep discovering more and more threads on this big soccer board.
i really like french football, i wish it was more popular. a couple years ago fox soccer channel in the us would show a match each weekend. now we get nothing unless you have setanta. everyone tends to watch the leagues that big name players are in, though a lot of them were groomed in france.
lille is a fun team to watch. but marseille is just a football mad town from what i hear and read. i was pumped that they beat liverpool. personally i like nantes. of course they were relegated last season so ill never see them until the get back to ligue un. but they are tied for top of league deux now, so maybe they will bounce back after just one season.

I am skeptical that thing will get built any time soon and will remain so until the first shovel is dug into the ground.
