Lyon: the plundering of the young people continues (01/10/2007)
After the young medium of ground Damien Plessis, which left the Olympic Lyonese this summer to join Liverpool, another hope of the Rhone-native club could pack its bags to join First League. It acts of the attacker Loïc Rémy (20 years). According to the English press, Newcastle, Tottenham and Portsmouth have an eye on the player, who has only a time of play very limited with the OL (17 minutes since the beginning of season). Rémy is still under contract for two seasons with the club champion of France. (By Pierre Lopes)

I should have put this in the transfer thread but I thought it deserved its own thread because I dont like seeing things like this and it deserves attention. If these English teams wanna keep up this crap then pretty soon they wont be fielding too many English native starting players. Platini cant do nothing about this because its all about economics and he cant win that fight. I'd like to see a 20 year old like Remy go to another French team instead like he should. Bring back the good ole days.

The Bosman ruling that allowed EU players to move freely is partly why the England national team has suffered.

I'm afraid there isn't much Platini can do legally to set stricter limits on having "homegrown" or domestic players.

I have one word for a guy like Rémy.

Idiot!

I mean, who does this guy think he is? He's not even among the top 20 I'd say in his peer group (he's in the same year as Ben Arfa, Benzema, Gakpé, Nasri, Ménez, etc.), and all he will do if he joins Newcastle/Tottenham/Portsmouth is sit behind guys who are better than him (i.e. N'Zogbia at Newcastle). If he wants to leave that badly, then I say good riddance while Lyon can focus on better players like Ben Arfa and Benzema.

One thing he should know is that it's not as if any French player who joins an EPL team will get action. Only good ones (Anelka, Malouda, N'Zogbia, Evra and the Arsenal contingent) actually get to play. There are a multitude of others who do nothing other than sit on the bench and collect their typically bigger paychecks. If that's what Rémy wants to do, then indeed, good riddance.

Sorry Catel, didn't actually read the article, been a busy few weeks. :o

Though I suppose you can already tell I'm not the biggest fan of Rémy, but hey, it's not as if every French up-and-comer always comes through Clairefontaine. All I will say, though, is that if he wants his career to go anywhere, he won't go to England where he'll be stuck on the bench. Getting games in L2/CFA would be more productive I believe right now.

Not yet but he might want to copy Plessis.

Plessis is doing great in the Liverpool reserves I'm sure.

At least at Lyon Remy gets some time on the senior team.
