The invisible man chant has made it onto a tee-shirt over at MCFC online store, and it just reminded me how I never got it. What dose it mean?

We are not we're not really here,
We are not we're not really here,
Just like the fan of the Invisible man, we're not really here

There are two stories I´ve heard about that one.

This one is rather believable.... One tabloid paper had an article describing how City in "League One" was going to play in front of empty stands while local rivals United would dominate the league before sell-out crowds, or something similar..The Manc humour took him up on that one as City actually had better crowds than many Premier League clubs that year.

It is actually this.

Years ago, a Prestwich and Whitefield branch (biggest branch of City fans) member died. At his funeral this song was sung by City fans:

"If you're drunk you will die, If you're sober you will die
So its better to be drunk than sober when you die
Just like the fans of the invisible man
We are not, We're not really here"

This version can still be heard at pubs at away games.
