Perhaps I need to be enlightened some, but why did they award Hamann player of the month????

His performances have seemed, well, mediocre at best when we are looking at Micah and Dunnie's from this past month. Even Schmeichel and Johnson over Hamann?? I don't completely hate the guy but I wish we had someone else in there with a little more athletic youthfulness than Dietmar has. I appreciate his knowledge of the game and his veteran status, but I don't agree with awarding him player of the month.

I could be wrong, and if you have an opinion that differs from mine by all means let me know. I feel like I am missing something.

I differ - he has been amazing all season. Consistently my runner up for man of the match

Without Hamann, you can forget about the impact Elano has had this season. Pretty much all attacking play has started from Hamann breaking up play and then passing it to someone else. Elano should of perhaps been player of the month but Hamann would be a very close second. Hamann has shown this season why we bought him and why he should be in the starting 11. Hes shown how hes been a significant part of winning teams and getting trophies in his career like the Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, Bundesliga and World Cup. He isnt mobile but he never has been. He breaks up play like no other player, his passing has been distributed amazingly well and he has anchored the team to almost perfection. He does an unknown job and you dont often see his real contribution in games but it is there alright.

Sorry guys, I posted this a while ago. I do agree that he can break up play like none other. However, I would argue that he is not the key contributor to City, he is more of a role player. That said I do believe the player of the month should go to your best contributor, and while Hamann ha clearly contributed, I still believe he is a role player and maybe 5 or 6th in the peking order.

I do agree with your points they are all valid, I was just suprised that City selected him as player of the month for August?

I think Def Mids are often overlooked because of the nature of their position. The don't score goals very often but breaking up attacks, maintaining possession, and assured passing keeps a side running smoothly. Most vital position on the pitch in my opinion.

I am a little worried actually. Hamann is pretty old and I wonder who's next in line to replace him. He's playing days are numbered in my opinion.

They're looking to purchase one in the window (already have Gelson Fernandes as well) possibly Viera which is also not a long term situation.

Hamman deserves this honor for his hard work, but I would've preferred to give it to one of the backs. Elano is an obvious choice since Hamman could've broken up all the plays last year, but since we couldn't score, 0-0 draws will get you relegated.
