This is a big game for both teams. For us, if we can pull off a win, which I think we can, it would be huge. Newcastle is hungry and they would like to creep up the table as well. With our starters rested we should be ready to go.

we should be fine for this game. Owen's out for a while and most of our starters got a full week's rest. We should win.

This could be a tight call, depends on the Toons line-up - they have a number of key players on the treatment bench. I'm sure that after viewing the Fulham game, they will want to try and limit any Petrov runs and send lots of crosses in to our box to test Schmeichel. ;) Perhaps Sven will give Hart or Isaksson a chance.
After working so well together, Dunne and Richards were disappointing against Fulham. Let's hope they've found their 'magic' again.
Setanta are not showing the match until 11:15pm EST! We'll have to ignore the scores they post during the live matches  and all the footy shows/reports!
I'm not going to make a prediction in case I jinx them (it's going to be another heart in the mouth match).
Come on City!
Goal to Newcastle on 30 minutes from nothing.
Obafemi Martins past Joe Hart in goals.

1323: GOAL Manchester City 1-1 Newcastle
There's the leveller. Elano releases Stephen Ireland on the right and his rolled pass across the box is met by Martin Petrov who comes in with the speed and venom of a heat-seeking missile to lash in.
Geez, That's 3 from 2 games for Petrov.
Picking him as my new favorite player for the season was a great idea :D:D:D:
Half-Time City 1 Newcastle 1
A good half, Joe Hart is not looking steady but the rest of the team is looking good. A 1 on 1 chance that Ireland really should of taken better, But it looks like were hitting another gear in the later stages of that half. Will be interesting to see how we come out.

Well, one all seems about right for the half. We need to be a little less careless with our balls in the middle third this coming half and we should go up another few goals. Quick hits for the half:
Hart: Showing his age; nearly knocked one in on himself (enough said about that). I still do not agree with the decision to pull Kasper.
Richards: Having one of the worst matches in recent memory; Martins found him looking on the lift over Hart, and nearly did again about 18 minutes later.
Dunne: Playing fairly well (better if you consider how badly Micah is defending).
Hamann: The same things I have been saying since the beginning of our campaign: gives too many away at midfield, poor general defending, and not enough recovery speed in his age to stop opportunistic attacks.
Ireland: Seems intermittently distracted from the pitch; one moment he is pushing in a perfect ground cross to Petrov to equalize, then the next he is going for the obvious cross body shot on a ridiculously open break, rather than dead-legging and then slotting it in to take City up.
Elano: Pure brilliance and strength; I am genuinely convinced he will be judged the most influential signing of this season (from any club).
Petrov: Aside from a couple of misguided passes, he has continued to impress me with his decision making and eye for goal.

My god that was beautiful...
Petrov is brilliant.
GOAL STRAIGHT AFTER HALF TIME !!
1352: GOAL Manchester City 2-1 Newcastle
City may be a man down with Richard Dunne receiving treatment, but they're a goal up now. The excellent Martin Petrov races away down the left before clipping a delightful cross into the box which a stooping Emile Mpenza heads back across goal and in.
1350: Richard Dunne and James Milner are down in a heap moments after the start of the second 45 after a clash of heads. Dunne's come off second best, but both will be OK to carry on.
Crap,
Corluka went down, Thought he was ok.
But he's not, Been subbed off for Ned. I assume Micah will go to a flank now.

Fairly impressive fluid passing right now.
If Ireland settles that cross Johnson has another goal.

It seems Didi heard my criticism and wanted to prove me wrong; good return to stop the Newcastle attack.

Weak foot strikes again for Richards (pun intended).
20 Minutes left, Hopefully we can continue this form and go top of the table for a few hours.

BEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAUTIFUL!!!
Elano with a masterful free kick into the far top corner.
PHWOAR.
Beautiful goal.
Can't wait to download the highlights of this game (found a great site the other day).
First City win this year where we have scored more than 1 goal, and the first time we hae conceded at home (WHERE IS KASPER !)

Great site? Could you give the link? :D Youtube is crap for goals/highlights now because NetResult shuts down everything.
Sounds like a well played game from you guys, Newcastle fans are pissed because apparently they played pathetic. Petrov sounds good.
I think you guys are going to do amazing this year, and the way you're playing, could challenge the top 4 if you really work at it.

A very convincing home victory against a fairly good squad (albeit without the thug and Owens). Looking forward to thrashing Boro next week.
Quick hits:
Hart: Aside from playing bad position on Martins' goal and the near own goal off a bad settling touch, young Joe was equal to the task. I still think SGE should not have removed Kasper from goal.
Corluka: Generally a great performance from the Croatian, with a few instances of pace to clear Newcastle chances.
Dunne: Defended exceptionally well the first half (even more so when consideration is given to Richards poor performance for the first 45). Worried about a possible concussion from his meeting with Rozehnal.
Richards: The second half saw a much better side of the jewel of Academy. Viduka's counter with Martins to his side would have brought Newcastle level if not for Richards pace.
Garrido: Although he is still showing he has much to learn in the English game, the fellow Spaniard was more than effective as a widestop and showed great tackling to help dissolve Toon crossing chances.
Elano: Another masterful effort by the star Brazilian. There are too many praises to list here, but the most important of which is his amazing touch and passing; I do not have the statistics in front of me, but I would wager a good amount that Elano has an important hand in at least 80% of City's goals.
Hamann: Showed age first half, and then seemingly lost ten years for the second. Still gives possession away too often and his passing seems to be dodgy.
Ireland: A decent home return for the Irishman, though, as I said at half, he does seem distracted at times. He looks to be building well with Petrov and Elano--I cannot wait to see what develops when Bianchi is fit.
Johnson: Nearly nonexistent this match; I watched every second and really only recall seeing him when he walked off after SGE sent in Ball.
Petrov: He is certainly making the competition for best summer signing more and more difficult with each passing match. Showed great creativity, pace, and finishing.
Mpenza: Great positioning to capitalize on Petrov's superb run and chip into the box, though still seems to have trouble finishing.
Onuoha: Short appearance but an impressive one; easily dealt with Smith and Martins, assuring our perfect home record.

Great result for us and our reputation - joint top now?. Well done the Blues, keep the fabulous footie coming. I thought Setanta weren't showing the match until 11:15pm EST this evening, but it was on LIVE this morning at 7:15am EST aaargh - I missed out on checking their schedule that early in the morning!!! It's not the same watching a match once you know the result. :( but I will.
I'm pleased that Ireland got a goal, I've been criticising his performances until now. What fantastic players we have in Elano and Petrov - can't wait to see the match tonight.
quote from mcfc.co.uk:
"On 82 minutes, Martin Petrov raced clear down the left to set up another chance,
The Blues were toying with Newcastle now, the highlight being Petrov's mickey-taking of Smith as the Blues passed the ball for fun. Minutes later, Elano, Mpenza and Ireland were all at it but the best was still yet to come.
Three minutes from time Elano opened the top drawer and put the ball in the top corner of Newcastle's goal with an amazing free-kick which seared beyond Given.
The Brazilian was withdrawn soon after to absolute raptures from the CIty fans after a fantastic performance.
City ran down the clock with neat passes all over the pitch and the fans began to head home happy.
FULL TIME: City 3-1 Newcastle
mcfc.co.uk's Man of the Match: Elano - need you ask - absolutely ran the game and capped it off with a brilliant goal.
Leon Collins"
I like it, we were toying with them, fabulous. :D
On an F1 note, come on Lewis.
