View Full Version : The British Media's obsession with Mourinho

If you believed the British media then Mourinho is the only 'character' to exist in the game for about 20 years. Just read a funny summing up of the over-reaction to 'the Special One' on http://www.midfielddynamo.com/, I've included the text below...
Mourinho Departure Reaction More Stunning than Mourinho Departure
It has been one of the biggest events in world history, shaping the destiny of civilisation for decades to come. The departure of Jose Mourinho from the Chelsea has truly been getting the coverage it deserves. The varied, lyrical tributes from the football world have flooded in as well. "He was a breath of fresh air" according to Mark Lawrenson in Saturday's Daily Mirror. Not to be outdone, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp opined that Mourinho was "a breath of fresh air" as did an editorial in The Sun. But it was left to Steve Bruce to the tell the world that Mourinho was "a breath of fresh air" on the BBC, Sky Sports News, Al Jazeera, CBeebies and Luton Hospital Radio. Graham Poll, writing in the Daily Mail took a different angle "He was a breath of fresh air", stated the controversial former whistler. Finally, Blackburn legend Simon Garner told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph that "Mourinho had undertaken a Faustian pact with the Russian oligarch in order to circumvent the natural laws of footballing success. Yet ultimately, t'was not to be". No hang on a minute, he actually said something about "fresh air".

I personally haven't slept a minute since the Special One parted company with Chelsea. I'm not sure life can ever be the same now.
English football, RIP

I haven't followed the media response to his departure but he made the biggest impact as a manager and a character in the shortest space of time of all the foreign managers - the EPL family will miss him.

Who are "the EPL family" and why will they miss Mourinho?
I can honestly say I haven't given him a second thought since ... I dunno, the day after he left?

I think it was more with Moroniho's obsession with the British media ..

I've managed to get some sleep now .... and ... who's that Mourinho bloke again? I keep hearing about him in the media ...Is he one of those trying to buy Arsenal ... or has he got a broken foot ... not sure
I think it's a bit odd how the media think we care so much, Chelsea fans maybe, but not the rest. Maybe it's because they think we all jumped on the Chelsea revolution like they did. Unfortunately for them the reality is far from that. No hard feelings towards the bloke, he was a character and all that but who really gives a toss.
Besides, it's funny watching all the Chelsea faithful squirm. It's funny how my mate is far less arrogant and patronising about football now. I think he's starting to get flashbacks to when Chelsea were a mid table team ... at best. It wasn't that long ago after all.

haven't been mid-table since 95-96 seasons, so more than 10 years. Depends what you mean by long ago I guess.

You know, the Epls. They live a few doors down, opposite the gay couple with the noisy chihuahua. Silver Prius on the drive and bratty kids. Huge Chelsea fans. Of course they used to be ManU fans, but then they stopped winning so they switched. You know, come to think of it I did see him wearing a red shirt the other day though...
I don't see the big deal over Mourinho. He had all the money in the world, but really didn't do that much with it. I used to think some of our old gaffers were the definition of overspending on a player, but he put them to shame. Plus Chelsea's losses were never Chelsea's fault, oh no. It was the refs, or the other team cheating, or the wrong kind of grass, or because the day had a y in it. Frankly, I'm glad he's gone. Now if only Arsene Whinger'd follow him...

Compared to how long you've probably followed them I suppose it is a long time

what a brilliant response. Let's bring out the same cliche argument that's been used about a 1000000 times now. Did you come up with that one yourself or did you need some help?

Jesus. Relax:rolleyes:
You might not have noticed but my whole post on this has been tongue in cheek. I also said my mate's a Chelsea fan, and has been for years, I give him the same stick and he calls us Blackeye Rovers etc etc etc blah blah blah ... I don't mean it and neither does he, although I seem to have touched a nerve here.
I couldn't really give a toss about how long you've supported them, it's an obvious response to give and a joke, don't be so defensive. I got the same stick when Jack Walker gave us the cash ... even though I'd been supporting them for years ... who cares:confused:
Who are you going to support next season though ... kidding .. really;)
