Let the pre-game talk begin.

Luckily for this match it appears that we will have a realatively fit line-up.

I would like to see Gomez and Klose start up top, but Loew will probably start Kuranyi again.

I just hope the match won't become a torture as DF indicated in the thread title...

Yeah, same.... Kuranyi needs so many damn chances to score sometimes, it's annoying to watch. Gomez is a much better clinical finisher, hope he starts or plays AT LEAST the whole 2nd half. Squid, you serious about the 12-1? I think maybe 3-0..

I predict 3-1. It won't be as easy as some expect. Ireland do have some firepower (and a player named Ireland!!!)

Klose will most likely be partnered by Kuranyi which I'm fine with. I've gotten to accept that he is a staple in the NT. Gomez or Poldi will most likely replace either of the two starters late in the game.

I think it's good how most of the starters are injured so they can get plenty of rest

Injury is never a good way to get rest. It's often hard to return to form after long-term injury - just ask Gabriel Heinze. Not that it'll happen to Ballack, Lahm and Frings (who else is injured? Jens?), but still.

so with a win/tie we definitely secure qualification right?

It's good that Ireland lost to the czech in the recent round of qualifiers. That pretty much knocked them out of the competition. Hopefully their morale will be low and ours will be high seeing as we are so close to qualifying and can see the finish line.

How else can you get a long rest during the season? They will all be back months and months before the euros anyway so they have time to sharpen their game

what?

"Qual" means "pain" or "torture" in German...

;)

"More confidence, stupid!" :D ***
Honestly, do you think there was even the slightest chance of us not qualifying before - say - the Wales game? We were already through then, and we've got no reason to worry now.
It would definitely be much more interesting if Ireland had still a reasonable chance of going through as well. As things are now, many Irish fans might stay at home or use the game as a forum to criticise their FA. The footy will play second fiddle, and I fail to see what's so great about that.

*** = This is not meant to be an insult, just an allusion for those who know and appreciate the humour of Troy McClure.

This might have been a great match to watch, but under the given circumstances I don't think it will be very thrilling. I guess a close away win is most likely.
All I hope for now is that no German hooligans will turn up in Dublin and that the Irish and German fans will have a good party before/after the match anyway, just like they did in Stuttgart.

Anyone have an injured list?

Also, when are Lehmann, Frings and Schneider expected back?

Bad injury news:

Klose is out for both euro qualifiers.
Lahm is said to be out until the middle of Oct so he is doubtful

Good injury news:

Schneider should be fit after problems with his knee
Frings is back in training and will most likely make his come back tomorrow
Lehmann returned to full training this weekend so he should be fit

All the other starters are available I think? As long as they don't pick up any injuries in the next ten day of course.

Borowski and Frings might be back, so probably only Ballack, Klose, Lahm and Metzelder missing.
