Looks like we could be calling Ronaldo a record-breaker by the end of the season at this rate. The fact he takes both the PKs and the FKs offers him a chance to actually get near 45 or more goals. He scores braces at a rate I don't quite recall anyone else doing and he puts fodder to the sword hungrily. Outside of injury and being rested, there's nothing but a massive loss of form that would stop him attaining 45. I think it'll be at the mercy of the manager when all's said and done, afterall, the club and its achievements are far more important than how many goals Ronaldo ends up with.
I won't quote this for each brace he scores, but his goals come from so many different places, I see no reason why 45 is out of his reach.

DS, have you ever seen scoring form like this from someone in the league. I mean, anyone, any position. Ronaldo's got stupid scoring numbers. I mean, Adebayor is having a great great season, playing virtually every match at CF for one of the top scoring clubs in the league and he's struggling to match pace.
On another note... Nani has got to be considered a GREAT prospect. Despite his youth, the language barrier and his inexperience in the league, he manages to be involved in goals and chances whenever he's on the pitch. His assists per minute would be interesting to look at.

I agree, imaturity aside, he's a fantastic prospect. He's a very good conventional dribbler(oh how I love those), surprisingly good passer and has a thunderbolt of a shot. He also works extremely hard. Imagine him in a few years with some of that 'Ronaldo maturity'.... my goodness...

From his position he is revolutionising the game. There's not been a scorer like that from such a starting position for decades (Best) but as strikers go, Fowler and Shearer went on some made scoring runs in the mid 90's. Before Shearer lost his true pace through injury he was odds on to score in every game he played.
I can't remember taking a player's goal-scoring performances for granted in the way I do with Ronaldo, though. Outside of Ruud v.1 the machine, Ronaldo is a player I never get surprised to see score in the league. He so badly needs Europe and the big four games now. Nthing but those will settle the doubters and take him up to the next level - I think once he crosses over, he'll remain there for his entire career. It's absolutely imperative we keep him here. At 26, injuries permitting, he will be beyond frightening. His best is yet to come, imo.

I agree. Thought that today. He has his moments of erraticsm and aimlessness, but he also has pockets of play that would look out of place on our best players in their best form.
is assist rate is by far the best in the team as he's played so few games. It certainly bears noting.,

Perhaps it would be better debated on the BG (but I've not been there for a year it seems) or some other open forum. However, is Ronaldo begining to scare people like well, Ronaldo was scaring people? Obviously he's not dominated the CL yet. But he's looked great for country and dominant in the league so much so that its not even form anymore. Its like he was switched on.

Not close, for me.
Ronaldo between 96-98 was the elected player to take a shot at matching or bettering Pele and Maradona. He was truly amazing. I don't think Cristiano will get to that level, but he doesn't need to.
I think he's turning the concept of a wing-forward into a new animal. There's no player active who can mimick what he does given his height, power and all-around skill-set. He scores so many different types of goals. In that sense he trumps everyone I can name of the last 10 years, at least.

Ahh... its funny you mention the different types of goals. I was thinking about that the other day and this season he's got a wonderful reel of goals.
Right footed, Left footed, Volley's, tap ins, goal mouth scrambles, long runs beating a defence with the ball, running onto through balls, penalties, fks, headers, diving headers.
He's also doing not just in different positions but FROM different positions. He's lined up on both the left and the right and has scored goals coming from both flanks or up the middle. Unless you want to dedicate a midfielder to track him, he seems like he'll find space somehow during the course of a match.

Speaking of prospects, I really like what I saw from Anderson today. He had one shot from outside the box that was on frame...he also had one in tottenham...it looks like he has been working on his shot..he also had that run where he almost scored...i think he's going to add goals to his game before the end of the season...

Who cares really? No disrespect.
Kwyak? WTF?
fair enough. then why care about Man U then?and no not Kwyak
the W lookin character is šč pronounced 'shchh' and the y is the u pronounced like 'oo' in root. the rest is as is, a=a and K = k since its phonetic incase you wondered and not letter for letter
just personal but i figure if you support a club the least you could do is spell your own players names right especially considering in other threads seska players get their names spelt right which are just as hard or even harder to spell

I think Cristaino Ronaldo is approaching a similar reputation to that of the Brazilian in the late 90's. For the benefit of this comparison I will refer to the said players as Cristiano (Cristiano Ronaldo) and Ronaldo (the Brazilian).
Granted he's not a striker but certainly his form and array of attacking play is somewhere near him. I remember watching Ronaldo in 1997 and thinking "oh my god, this guy is truly the best player I've ever seen, and I've seen Gascoigne!!!". Since then his well documented decline in form and fitness has been heart breaking to watch for both fan and nuetral. I think Cristiano is certainly set for a much longer career than his namesake. Ronaldo was over played, (allegedly) manipulated by sponsors, and was almost finished by the time he was 26 or 27 due to injury and burn out. He never truly recovered from his knee injuries at Inter although he was handy for Madrid to begin with.
Cristiano is not in the same pressure cooker environment though. At Man Utd he will get rested, dropped and taken care of responsibly because Fergie would never have it any other way. He may not score as many caeer goals but I think he needs maybe a decent run in Europe (his record this term is outstanding) and another couple of seasons like this one and he will be classified up there.
He may never reach Ronaldo's level, but he won't be far off if he doesn't.....

C Ronaldo is not a winger, just like Rooney is not a striker.
I think it balances out for us though in a way because Ronaldo plays such an attacking role, we might as well call him a striker, while evening out Wayne's tendency of dropping back, sometimes even all the way back to defense.

Ronaldo is still a wing-forward, he has still created a ridiculous number of chances which should have been put away(thanks in part to Rooney's erratic finishing this season and the lack of a #9) which is partly responsible for the very low assissts number.
Harry, Ronaldo has to stepup a lot against the big teams to be put at the same pedestal, right now he is closer to matching Henry and would suffer the same 'choker' tag.

That was a Carrick goal. Top Class finishing. The only positive thing in the game.

Yeah that finish was so clean. I need to learn how to do that.

It's not hard, but then again, i'm starting to play more like carrick everyday. I blame a lack of mobility (i'm more fragile then Saha)
