The article's on the Howard transfer, of course, but it mentions the Metros assistant coach, who played for Scotland once upon a time.

Johnston joined MetroStars in December last year as assistant to head coach Bob Bradley. He made his mark in the United States as a player with Kansas City Whiz, helping them to the 2000 MLS Cup championship. What exactly would the logo be for a teamnamed for a liquid that swirls around in a urinal? (that's as graphic as I get)

This is kind of trivial - but no Intl media outlets have picked up on the fact that the MetroStars dumped the New York/New Jersey title.

But I suppose it's not really a sign of disrespect, since some still people insist on saying Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic.

It prevents confusion with the NY Rangers, Texas Rangers, the Boston Celtics, and the Texarkana Metrostars. ;)

One minor error still in the article. the All-Star game is not an end-of-season event.

Howard has been in outstanding form in America's MLS this season and was overwhelmingly selected as goalkeeper for the end-of-season All-Star game.

Unless there's another one they haven't told us about yet.

Talking about suggestive logos, do you remember the old ny yankees logo? They have abandoned that logo and now use "ny" logo. The old logo is not even on their web site.

I know that this is off-topic, but I feel out of the loop since I've been living overseas for the last couple of years...

Why would Steinbrenner & Co. be de-emphasizing that Yankees logo (aside from the implied suggestivism)? Seems very traditional...

The Beeb get something wrong about MLS? Naw.

Since it's been almost a year, I may have to finally tell the whole story of how the thing with the wanker from the BBC from last summer finally played out. I have been sworn to secrecy, but f-em if they can't take a joke.

Allow me to be the first to say, "do tell."

Unless there are lawyers involved, in which case I'll be the first to say, "get a sock puppet."

Go for it, Kenn. I think we all know most of the story up to this point (and the story's a classic, by the way). :D

Beat me to it, Dr. W.

And yes, unless there are lawyers involved who will say, "Our people must do lunch with your people to hash things over!" :D

Oh yeah. Maybe I'll put it back up and change all the names so they can't say anything. Make up a fictional international news agency.
