2nd Round Key Games:

The second round throws up some well matched ties, and some interesting games. Darlington will be looking to upset Leeds, and although it will be the first competitive encounter for a long time, the whites are no strangers to the Darlington Arena. This season saw Leeds record a 1-0 win in the annual pre-season friendly, thanks to a goal from Jermaine Beckford, although he along with most of the first team are likely to sit this game out. Doncaster Rovers v Oldham looks the pick of the other Northern Section games, while Morecambe are looking to test their incredible cup form this season with a trip to Vale Park.

In the Southern section, Dagenham & Redbridge made a good start to their first ever JPT campaign by knocking out Southend in the first round but Leyton Orient, flying in League One, may prove a sterner test at Brisbane Road. Other 'all League One' clashes include Gillingham v Luton, Bristol v Bournemouth and Swindon v Cheltenham.

Bradford have sent a dossier to those corrupto's at the Football League over their squad for their 5-1 hammering at Doncaster. FL rules state that you must name something like 7 players who played in the last league game or take a £5,000 fine. Personally I think Leeds will make at least 7 changes so the outcome of this will be interesting.

How many fans do you reckon you will be bringing up?

A few more than for Pre-season, probably 2 or 3 thousand. I haven't seen our allocation yet, but its only £24 including return travel so I might go, and kids are free.
Its on SKY as well so I don't know if it will be more than that. Wise has already said he isn't bothered about the cup and will play a lot of the kids.

Luton were 3-1 up in this game thanks to two goals from veteran Paul Furlong after Chris Dickson had given the Gills a 17th minute lead. Well the draws have been made and while there are no so-called glamour ties in this competition it gives clubs that play in League Two the chance to play teams in League One and vice-versa. The real impressive side so far has been newly promoted Morecambe, whose progress in Cup competitions this season has been superb, claiming the scalp of local hate-figures Preston North End in the Carling Cup, their run halted at Bramall Lane by a very strong Sheffield United side, while in the JPT the Conference playoff winners last season have despatched League One sides Port Vale and Tranmere Rovers and are rewarded with a trip to Hartlepool who, newly promoted to League One but impressing so far, will provide their sternest test yet.

In the southern section last seasons conference winners Dagenham will visit Priestfield to play League One side Gillingham, having negotiated their way past two League One sides, Southend United and Leyton Orient in previous rounds.

The glamour tie was always going to be a trip to Elland Road for someone and so it has proved. Bury FC will be playing Leeds United at Elland Road. In terms of a likely good game, look no further than Swansea v Yeovil.

JPT Quarter Final Results

MATCH REPORT Leeds United 1 - 2 Bury FC, Att 18,809

For a JPT tie, this was a huge crowd, with Leeds looking for the highlight of a trip to Wembley in a few rounds. Unfortunately the management didn't think the same, handing debuts to several youngsters. Even with this handicap, Leeds started much the better side, with Leon Constantine latching onto a ball over the top and putting Leeds 1-0 up after just eight minutes. It didn't last however, United wasted chances through De Vries and Da Costa, and were made to pay when Bury levelled after 25 minutes. Leeds failed to defend a Brian Barry-Murphy corner, and Ben Futcher rose to head the ball home, unmarked. To make matters worse they repeated the mistake to allow the impressive Andy Bishop to despatch another Barry-Murphy corner five minutes later. Leeds still looked like coming out on top, but when Filipe Da Costa, whose trickery was causing some horrific tackles from Bury, reacted with one of his own he was given a straight red card on his debut. Leeds continued to press, roared on by the crowd, and had chances galore, but it just wouldn't go in. Bury, defending for their lives, were somewhat fortunate to get away with the win, but Leeds just couldn't find the net despite 19 shots on target.
