Great atmosphere on stadium when speaker said that Diego extends his contract http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2eP3BGjDbc . I hope that he will never leave the club :) .

I believe this was done so Werder can get max money when Diego does decide to leave. Which I expect to be after this season or next.

i agree, i hope it is after next season though....im glad he did this, i think hes trying to repay the club for the chance we gave him....i mean for all we know, if we hadnt have picked him up, he might still be struggling at porto

I read that he is suppose to be earning 3.5 million euro a year (he was earning 2 million before) after the contract extension. It's form Bild, so be aware! ....I think they got it right this time though;)

Yeah, I think so too. And I think Werder were smart to pay him that much. After all, that overrated, injury-prone freakin' Basturk is getting 3M at Stuttgart and Diego is at least five times better than him!

Baştürk getting 3 million? That's just insane to pay his arse that much. Wow, this makes the Diego deal look brilliant.

I was saying that about paying Basturk on the Stuttgart boards all off the off-season. I thought they were lying about how much Stuttgart were going to pay him, but they confirmed it saying, "When you want to play in the CL, you have to play some players like this."

I agree with that, but not THAT PLAYER!! My club, BVB, nearly went f#cking bankrupt with that philosophy.........

Footy, do you know how much BVB offered him? Weren't they after him too?

At Werder the salaries have a performanced based bonus
so you can´t compare them 1-1 with the contracts at
VfB or BVB.

Nevertheless when i also heard about the Bastürk salary at VfB
and was also schocked.

BVB never made a formal offer. I'll just tell you he would have probably gotten paid half that much with us.

EE, does Diego not have a base salary? If so, what is it?

Everyone who is non-Turk was too. VfB didn't get where they are from where they were by being stupid, but in my opinion, that was the dumbest move made this off-season. Not their getting Basturk, but in how much they are paying him.

That's not true. Allofs said clearly that Werder was already in the second leg of the last season in negotations with Diego and that the new contract is absolutely no reaction on the current rumours. Furthermore I don't think Werder rises his wage only for one season, just to pay him more.

I´m sure that Allofs would be glad to keep Diego as long as possible. With his estimated Value of 25.000.000 € he will be hard to keep for longer than this season, though. Werder might even get more, if he is eventually sold.

It´s really sensational to watch him play in the Weserstadion.

Surely you expect him to say such things to the media? He's not going to come out and say the opposite, that's for sure. The man deserves a salary wage, and plus Werder get him on year more on the papers. It's a win-win situation, really. And we all know the chance of Diego staying in Bremen to 2011 if he continues to develop and play like he's doing, is very small. Look at it as securing your investment. Say Diego wants to leave in 2009, and his current contract will first expire in 2011. Now won't you say that puts Werder in a hell of a lot better negotiation situation than if the contract was to expire in 2010?

Yes, you are right. I also think that he won't stay untill 2011. But footyfan1 said, that he expects Diego to leave already after this season. That was the point I disagree. IMO he will stay at least one more year untill 2009. Werder will do it like in Klose's case where everyone expected him to leave after the World Cup 06. But he stayed in Bremen for one more year.

When he would leave after this season the transfer fee must be much higher
than 25 million €. Look at his age, his potential and the contract length,
which doesn´t put Werder under pressure.

Sure, but atleast Diego could say, that he likes to stay without looking
like someone, who fears, that someone could stands behind him with a baseball bat
as we could see it in the last half year at MK.

I said after this season or next! If you're going to quote me, at least use the full quote!

Just where did I say anything about the contract being for "one season" or it being a "reaction to the current rumors?"

Those are YOUR WORDS, not mine! Again, if you're going to quote me, at least get it right.

Which shows you must not be a strong English reader since my words were right above what you apparently WISH I said!
