Fight is on Dec. 8.

They had the press tour this week and it looks like Floyd is a Red. ;)

Neither can I. Either Britain wins or a City fan gets KO'd. I can't lose! :D

Hatton's my favorite boxer still kicking around, just wish he wasn't a Citeh supporter.

Just cuz he wore the shirt, I guess I'm pulling for Floyd.

I like Ricky Hatton, but sometimes I feel his style is a little, I don't know, underhanded.

I do believe, though, that that style is his advantage over Floyd.

I will get into this more in-depth when I have some time.

I do enjoy a good box.

Been watching that 24/7 thing lately, good stuff. The way they've been hammering it though, I actually thought the fight was this weekend at one point.

Not huge on boxing but like most sports take a passing interest. Think I'll go for Mayweather but only just. Wouldn't really like to have a bet on it though.

Glad you bumped this. Reminded me to check a result from last night on someone I've been following for a while. The Atomic Spider (http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=225386&cat=boxer) (:D) won.

Physical boxer, great body puncher, hook and hold type. On paper, it'd seem like the perfect style to counter Floyd's.

But, Floyd is definetly the truth.

I havnt watched a fight of this proportion since Roy Jones last fight. I will definately check this one out. I've been noticing people on our board rating Hatton, and ofcourse any American who knows boxing knows Not-so-pretty boy floyd.

Hope this doesnt end up a early KO.

The chances of a knockout in this fight are pretty remote.

This will be a battle for points in each rounds. On watching both fighters, you would have to believe that Hatton's hold-and-punch style will suit him against Floyd. This is the one thing that I believe gives Hatton a chance at this fight. If he can frustrate Floyd with his grabbing and wrestling than it may be a more entertaining fight than at current time it is proposed.

Mayweather is an incredible boxer. He seldom gets hit. His punches are quick and accurate. He is fast. But he is also very boring. His punch and run tactic is effective, but it leaves the fan with a lot of wanting once the fight is over. He is not as strong in these higher weight classes as he was prior. He does dominate fights, though, and his quickness will always trouble a puncher.

Hatton's style can cut off the ring, which is the only way Hatton could possibly be effective against Floyd. In Mayweather's first fight with Jose Luis Castillo, he was caught and cornered in the later rounds, to the point where I thought Castillo had the chance to win, only to learn that a slow start caused him to lose the fight. Castillo cut off that ring and didn't give Floyd much room to run. This will be the way that Hatton will approach the fight. The grabbing and slipping should work to his advantage, but he should be wary of his tendency to be erratic. He needs to figure Floyd out quick, or he's going to be scratching for time. While Mayweather beat Castillo in the rematch, and Hatton disposed of Castillo in his last fight, Castillo was no longer that hungry fighter (well, maybe food hungry, since dude could never make weight), so I disregard those performances to gauge how Hatton will do against Mayweather.

I don't see this fight matching the hype, although I do hope I'm wrong. I can't stand Mayweather's personality, but his speed is just too much to cope with. I was unimpressed by Hatton against Juan Urango (sp?), and Tszyu, imo, was on his way downward, but Ricky has ability. Whether he will be the one to knock Pretty Boy Floyd off his perch will be seen next weekend. I do hope for a good fight.

Good post.

For as much shit talking that Floyd does, you'd expect him to be a knock out artist who comes out swinging. He seems like he goes for the points a lot. He is very quick and he also has amazing stamina, but as you said his fighting is kind of boring.

Hatton is a great body puncher. I heard that punch that knocked out Castillo broke 4 of his ribs.

It was a well-placed punch that "another" Castillo would have blocked. Nonetheless, it was a powerful body punch that sent Castillo sprawling. I've never seen anyone do in Castillo like that.

But at the same time, I don't see that specific punch landing on Floyd. Mr. Cocky has incredible defense. He knows how to use his elbows to block the body punches; his head movement and fast feet are second to none.

While my boxing knowledge tends to weigh this fight heavily in favor of Mayweather, I still believe it is more of a toss-up than expected. If Hatton can get on his game-plan and figure out Floyd quickly, he has a chance. The holding and closeness that Hatton puts on in a fight is not something that I've seen Floyd deal with. He had some difficulty with De la Hoya whenever Oscar came in close, but that is not the type of fighter that DLH is so he struggled to completely turn the fight on his side (I didnt' feel that Floyd "beat" Oscar, either). This is the exact way that Ricky fights, though. If DLH could trouble him, then Hatton can. If he can be successful in cutting off the ring, being aggressive (but not overly aggressive), then he stands a chance.

Hehe,

JC talks more in one boxing thread then he does in about 5months on the footy board!

Interesting POV. I agree with most of what you've said.

I doubt Floyd will be able to run away from Hatton for 12 rounds and he definitely can't knock him out. His ringmanship is good but he's no prime RJJ and I think Hatton will cut him off and grab him a great many times in the middle rounds.

I guess the Hatton gameplan will be the clinch and the work on the inside under the guard over the guard with clubbing hits and eventually the body shots to slow Mayweather down. Mayweather with his tippy, tappy shots will be well up on points, but I don't know if that will make a difference 20 Mayweather shots = 2 Hatton bombs and a brawler like Hatton isn't going to stop walking into shots to land his own.

I didn't know where to put my money, but I'm leaning toward Hatton now. Mayweather has big trouble with that style and Hatton's clubbing over hands and clutching>body shots are a big, big problem for Mayweather should he get dragged out of his comfort zone in the middle of the ring.

Mayweather's lack of power is going to cost him dearly in this one, imo. Hatton in 9.

There was a big article in "ESPN: The Magazine" about Hatton. It talked a lot about his fluctuating weight. I assume that there's no issue with that here, that he got down in plenty of time so he'll be strong.

I haven't watched enough of either fighter to call this for sure. In general, I favor the boxers, but they all get older and slower and eventually they start to get hit. Is Hatton the guy that will catch Mayweather? I have no idea. Wouldn't mind seeing Mayweather get caught and then see him have to dig deep. Would Leonard have been so great if he'd never had to come back against Hearns? Like in all sports, I want to see greatness. If Hatton catches Mayweather early then we may get to see if there is any greatness.
