I just spoke with Marius at Trinity Hall and he said he would open the pub at 6:00 AM for the WWC quarterfinal between USA and ENG!
YAY!
Two quick things:
1. Marius said to remember that 6:00 is early so if you get there at 5:58 and the door is locked, don't panic. It absolutely WILL be opened. They'll have coffee.
2. I'll bring a couple dozen donuts. Also, their grill doesn't open until 8:00 AM, or about the time the match ends. May I suggest, to support and thank Marius, that we stay for breakfast after the match? TH will have some activity ... they're showing the RSA:TGA rugby match ... PPV, so we're honor-bound to not watch ... and the Liverpool:Birmingham match starts at 8:45.
Let's support Marius for opening up early for us and come out en force! Did I mention ...
FREE DONUTS!

That's pretty cool of him, hopefully he will have a good showing. Tomorrow will be the first time I ever watch the USWNT play, hopefully they don't disapoint me.

What you need to know:
Hope Solo = awesome goalie.
Abby Wambach = scoring fiend.
Together, they make the USWNT invincible! (Or they combine to form Voltron. Can't remember which.)
For all of the grief the USWNT got on this board when they rolled through PHP a few months ago, it might behoove many of us to tune in not only to support Team USA, but see some strong fundamentals. Mmmm, fundamentals.

How degrading it must have been for those girls to make those commercials for ESPN.
Those commercials make the "Your a fan, you just don't know it yet" commercials not look so bad.

Bleah, what a lousy first half. USA seems to be fighting butterflies, whereas England can't string much together because USA at least breaks up the play before any scoring attempts can gel. I'd prefer to see USA controlling the ball more rather than relying on the soccer equivalent of "slop shots" in pool.
Also, and this applies to both teams: Worst footwork EVAR. It's like driving a car that can only go forward, in 2nd gear. I'll be interested to see the Brazilian team tomorrow - their rep is that they play "like the men's team." I assume that means fancy footwork.
Anyway, that back line is solid, huh? Can someone mail the tape to FCD? ;)

Am I the only one getting stuck with fukcing Okie State pregame BS on ESPN2? The guide SAYS WWC, but I get okies. I am not amused.

Time Warner.
Ass Clowns.
I just watched us score on Telefutura.
Time Warner Ass Clowns obviously had a Pickens-Paid Sand Aggy
informercial dialed up for 8am.
Unbelievable.
I hope they realize SUM is well funded and will lawyer up accordingly.

Just for the record, TWC is claiming that it's ESPN2's decision to switch. I'm SO not buying that until someone I trust tells me it's true.
F'ing TWC.

[R] alert...
3 goals in 12 minutes for Team USA. Wambach (see?), Boxx, and Lilly. After lots of first half floundering, USA made it look easy in the 2nd. Not sure WTF was up with not subbing out players like Wambach around the 70th minute when the game was essentially in the bag. 3-0 is your final. Wake up early for Brazil/Australia tomorrow to scope out USAs next opponent.

We watched the first half before we had to leave for the mini Inerno dude game. I noticed that there was a college football segment on, but figured it was just espn doing it's thing by mixing in some pointy ball at halftime. Hit the TIVO and headed out. Just sat down to watch the second half and also got the asshat OSU show with a return to the soccer game after all 3 goals had been scored. I have Charter, so it might be an espn decision. What a bunch of idiots...you don't cut away during an event. They have like eight channels, put OSU(not the good OSU) on the OCHO...my god...it's freakin OSU. Southlake Carroll could probably take them.....
My TIVO will probably stop before I get to see the goals on the post game highlights...
asses.

Good greef. We have DirecTV = no mucking about. Not sure why the cable feed for ESPN messed around with the game and the DTV one didn't - but you may want to file that factoid away for whenever you're faced with the opportunity to switch to something else.
I heard some woman talking about how her husband woke up early to watch the game (just like I did), only to miss all 3 goals (unlike me). He found them online somewhere. I'll beat TexGator to the punch and declare that I am the only person on Earth who is thinking of that scene in Amelie where she effs with her neighbor's TV reception so he missed all of the soccer goals. :p
* I have NO affiliation with DTV except as a happy customer. Yay me!

We have Verizon FiOs and they showed the game on ESPN2.

This reminds me of the real World Cup last year. Some ABC affiliates around Little Rock decided that cartoons were more important than all of the non-USA games so they didn't show them. Cormaxtacy can probably tell you all about that.

It's called a cable modem Grandpa....some of us live in an area where it's the only option for high speed internet and it's simply more cost effective to get TV service through the same carrier. :)

Agreed. I have cable modem too for my interwebs, but I still installed DirecTV so I wouldn't have to deal with all of the cable bullsh*t I've had frustrate my soccer viewing over the years.
