“Mourinho was the greatest manager Chelsea have had, or are likely to have ––...”

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/giles_smith/article2500566.ece

Can not put it better than that.

All that purported “beautiful football” by Arse and they only scored 13 more goals during Jose’s tenure, while hoisting little silver and accumulating 49 fewer points.

It really is not as simple as apparently most of you think to win 2 League titles an FA Cup, two League Cups and get to two CL semi-finals all while NOT LOSING A SINGLE LEAGUE HOME MATCH.

The 50 years without any titles ought to be a bit of a clue to the difficulty of the achievement.

And with all this record breaking success Sir Alec was still nipping at our tails, leaving so little room for error like a home loss or two.

“Grindingly successful? Again, there was a grain of truth in that. But you would say this much in favour of grindingly successful: it has a lot to recommend it over grindingly unsuccessful, which is the historical background that most Chelsea fans are necessarily coming from. “

Yes it is not the first time Chelsea have changed managers, acted incredibly stupidly, times have been darker in many ways than they likely will be now and so on but when you can justify firing a coach, and only a mind as thick as a bubble blower could think otherwise, after an “unacceptable” run of 1 loss, 1 draw and 1 draw that was really a win, without 3 of your most valuable players, that is an altogether different and more troubeling sick darkness on a path to ruin and a clubs “collective suicide”.

Personally I find more beauty in the discipline of a team working together and defending as one and simply winning 1-0 over sloppy error filled, defense be damned back and forth 4-3 solo acts galore, no more parades at the end of the year, losing.

No it is not the end of the world and only the end of an era; but undoubtedly that era was the most successful era we have yet to achieve or likely to achieve for many years to come. No Jose is not God but he truly is the “Special One” and the most successful Gaffer we have yet to have or likely to have for many years to come. It is certainly a time for mourning and feeling the loss and respecting the achievements.

Yes we have good players and resources but so do other teams, and we might pick up silver here and there but dreams of being a dynasty, the most dominant team on the planet for years to come, let alone League titles for the near future, have dissipated into the foul fumes of unqualified cronies, meddlesome owner and boards, press releases only Saddam’s Information Minister could deliver with a straight face, and aging galacticos being the face of shallow style over substance “branding” and marketing.

I have found that often when life blesses you with a rare and special magic and success and you choose to mock and piss all over it, it usually pisses back long and hard. Remember your umbrellas.

Extremely well written. I guess many arent feeling the loss as me and some others. Fact of the matter is that the over-indulgence of the board and Roman in particular really got to him. Playing terry as a forward, etc were eccentricities I wouldnt have associated with Jose in the first few seasons. But he had not LOST it as some are putting. Changing your style and play with players past their prime just to appease the owner was a very difficult task. And still he managed to be quite successful with that.

I remember the game we drew at Arsenal, conceding the title to Man U and the camera panned out to Jose. The commentator was saying "Look at this guy. Rest assured he will be back, bigger, stronger and much better". Alas that didnt happen :(

great thread. Mods, can we merge this with the Tribute thread.

We all knew there would come a day when the Special One would leave, but we all thought it would happen after a few more great seasons. I would have loved to see him leave on a high note, either after winning the CL or the league or the double. He would then say that he wants to move on to manage Portugal and we'd all feel sad, but we would understand. This, however, makes no sense. It's truly a sad time for Chelsea fans all over the world.

Somehow I don't think that chants of, "Stand up, for the normal one" will have the same effect.

Jose the great. A true genius. He was full of tricks. Made me smile.

In a famous case in 2005, Chelsea fitness coach Rui Faria wore a woolly hat that partly covered his ears when coach Jose Mourinho was banned form the touchline.

Damn,I've never seen that before. I don't follow Chelsea, but you have to respect a man like Murinho. I suppose its stuff like this that earned him the title of the "Special One"
