For whatever reason I was watching the United States vs. Portugal group stage match from last years World Cup.
After the third goal by McBride the ESPN announcer says something unintelligible. After his "score!" he exclaims "3:0 United States, they're ______ Portugal"
My friend thought it was "they're drumming Portugal" but it sounds more like "they're bruddamin Portugal" whatever that means

I definitely know what you mean. I must have watched the episode at least 15 times and I still don't know what Edwards said there.

I think he said "the United States are pounding Portugal"

I thought it sounds like "bombing," which is in pretty poor taste.

I've probably heard that call 25 times (have the clip on my PC). I have no freaking clue what he's saying, but it sounds like "They're drunk in Portugal." Makes as much sense as anything.

Three people from history I would invite to dinner:
1.Jesus
2.Abe Lincoln
3.Jack Edwards

Actually, I thought he said "throbbing"..
As goofy as JingoJack is, he simply wouldn't say bombing Portugal in light of recent events (at the time of course, or any time for that matter)..

No, he would have said they were peppering Portugal with 74-yard balls to the middle of the 18-yard box that Donovan had to climb the ladder to retrieve, all while doing his famous promo for an upcoming match, saying, "The Loser goes on and the winner goes home."

Yeah, I think only Jack himself could settle this debate (though he may have been too hysterical during that moment to have a clear memory). Me, I think it's "bombing", with "drumming" a second choice and "<primal incoherent utterance that is not actually an English word>" a strong dark horse.
If it was "bombing," give the guy a break. We all know he was talking soccer, not world politics. Much aggro-militaristic language is used in sports without any misunderstandings about how it relates to the current geopolitical situation.

Finding an excuse to watch USA-POR again, I put the tape into the VCR, and the guy doing the captions obviously thought Jack said "pounding."
That's as geekish as I get tonight.

I haven't watched the video, but I thought at the time he said "pounding". It made sense looking at the scoreline, and the way the US was playing Portugal - running at them and attacking the goal.

I have the answer: it's they're "front of in" Portugal.
of course, it should be "in front of" but I guess he was really excited

drubbing. i'll listen again tonight, but i'm pretty sure about it.
and as annoying as he can be at times, he also has one of the best calls... when McBride scored against the Guats in RFK in 2001.
"and the building is shaaaaaaking!!!!"
i dunno.

I've always thought it was pretty obviously 'pounding'. I guess it's not so obvious if so many people don't think that's what it is, but I'm still certain that's what he said.
