I'm not a Chelsea supporter or chelsea hater, so read nothing into what I write.

I was wondering what the impact will be on the premiership, champions league, and even euro/WC qual (if he takes a national team job) will be.

I dont watch as much premiership as the rest of you, but ive never been particularly impressed by mourinho's squad selection. I know he has to juggle CL, premiership, and the multitude of english cups, but ive never thought he's been that great at selections or his long ball tactics. Feel free to disagree with me, i base my opinion on only a few games.

Will chelsea be better in europe with a new coach?

My bet is that Mourinho has a national team job lined up (portugal?) or he knows that teams who are not going to qualify will be hiring soon. My initial thought was portugal with how scolari's portugal hasnt exactly been convincing during qualifying.

I havent done any research into what the media are reporting, im sure the rumor mill is running rampant right now regarding him.

I think Mourinho will be at Real Madrid or Inter next year.

Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal have settled long term managers and Jose wont be taking a backward step. So the Premier league's out.

I kinda get the feeling that Jose prefers the day to day working with players, and more so that he has a lot to prove to his doubters in club football. So that's a NT job out.

The most likely outcome will be him waiting for one of the giants of Italy or Spain to become disillusioned with one of their managers (which happens quite frequently). Barcelona fans and players hate him so their probably out, and I don't think AC Milan's president would be too impressed with his style of play. That leaves Real, Inter and Juve. If Madrid play good football this year, he could be looking at a 2 year wait. Sooooo, I think Juventus will be his next destination (Ranieri's got a habit of moving around a lot). Remember you heard it here first.

I wouldn't rule out Barca. He used to work there as an assistant so he knows the city and the club well, and Rijkaard could be gone if Barca's early season slump in La Liga continues a little longer.

The oddsmaker, William Hill, has Portugal as the 2/1 favorite for Jose's next destination.

The problem could be that Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Henry probably have little respect for him after recent tournament matchup's.

On the otherhand how ironic would it be if Jose joined Barcelona, and won trophies playing exactly the style of football that Abramovich was looking for.

Mourinho, as great as he is, will not be heading the Barcelona ranks just yet. IMO his formations are not ideal for the players at the Spanish club. In his last match, he sent Sheva against the world, and Barca plays three forwards simultaneously.

And most importantly, the Catalan club ownership doesn't like radical changes as much as Madrid....they develop players (unusual for a team of their importance) and they are satisfied (not elated) with Rijkaard. Only a first round exit from CL will result in an offer for the special one.

Now, the most important question is, who will lead Chelsea? Whoever Abramovich hires will not have the autonomy that Mourinho did, that is for sure. From my observations, teams run from a presidential balcony are doomed to fail. Why don't these owners that think they know so much about football get on the pitch and lead the players themselves? That is what I would do if I was a multi-billionaire. The talented players at Chelsea deserve a great gaffer, I hope they get one. But they probably will not....

Mlourinho was born to manage Inter, and he will, imo, be the first manager to get a EC for Inter since Herrera.

I honestly see him joining atletico de Madrid!

They are the third ritchest team in Spain and they might sack Aguirre depending how he does with uefa and La Liga!

I wouldnt rule out also him joining a team like Sevilla! I dont know if Juan de Ramos is ready for the CL, and honestly he has won two uefas but when It comes to la Liga he has failed...Maurinho understands the philosophy of Spanish football very well so we could see him there. Money would be a concern but, honestly any team he joins in La Liga will become seriously really dangerous.

Inter in Italy is also a possibility!

Depends, how the president act.
Look at Milan, there it has worked with Berlusconi since many years.

Why don't these owners that think they know so much about football get on the pitch and lead the players themselves? That is what I would do if I was a multi-billionaire.

Watching the match from the match from the balcony is much more clever.
If your team has sucess the people applaud you, while at hard times
you have someone to blame: ... the coach.

I want to see him take the Portugal hotseat ... he's won everything there is to win at club level at such a young level.. the Champions league, euro cup and league championship + cups... it's time to go for the WC... but yeah I can also see him going to one of the big two Latin countries to club manage... hey, the USA job is vacant innit? .... or should be soon.

Word is he's looking for a new place and to learn a new language: Germany or Italy.

I don't think any german club other than bayern could afford him. Would have to be a Premier League club like Newcastle or Tottenham or an Italian club like Juve.

But overall "effect on europe"? Eeeeh. None. Other than clogging more interesting news with endless repeats of the verbal diarrhea he's had.

There's no way that Barcelona would hire a coach who after he left them became renowned for defensive football. Defensive football is against their culture.

Seeing the Russian-Dutch link, it would not surprise me if Hiddink would end up at Chelsea after the Euro qualifying campaign. I can see Mourinho managing either a German or an Italian side.

There would be much rejoicing in the Netherlands if Van Basten was to piss off to Chelsea.

I can see Mourinho at Bayern, Inter, or Real Madrid, within 2 years.

Hitzfield has already said he only wants to be a short term solution. Munich have 'German Chelsea*' (domestic dominance, Champion's League forays, money WHEN needed) all over them.
Inter? If Mancini doesn't do well, Moratti might want to burn away the image of a failed centenary by recruiting the Special One.
Real Madrid? Well, we are Real Madrid. ;) (sigh :p)

*Bayern Munich > Chelsea :) Sake of argument my dear friends.

I think most Chelsea supporters would be even happier if he did his pissing in his homeland, thank you very much.

Gullit, on the other hand, is a Dutchman I wouldn't mind back at the bridge again.

He was on CTV the other night, and was asked directly if he would like to manage us again, he didn't even blink before answering yes.

Gullit isn't exactly the most popular manager in Holland either. He made an absolute mess of Feyenoord, spending shedloads on a host of useless players. He's generally held responsible for Feyenoord disastrous last couple of seasons. So I really have no idea why you would want him either, he's an even worse coach than Van Basten (who despite being a cocky twat who's managed to alienate the entire fan population of the Netherlands, does at least achieve results with his team)
