There is an interesting article (http://www.unionradio.com.ve/Noticias/Noticia.aspx?noticiaid=216171) about Melbourne's coach asking the press not to put too much pressure on Costa Rican Carlos Hernandez. The article goes on to say that everyone is comparing him to Fred... Apparently Fred had a slow start in the A League (the one in Australia). The comparison is that both of them didn't play well their first 7 games with Melbourne, but then Fred went on to lead the team to the title. (Sound familiar?) The coach goes on to say that the idea of replacing Fred with a foreigner or an australian is ridiculous, but he has a lot of faith in Carlos....

In unrelated news, Mattias Donnet (perhaps this part belongs in the alumni forum) organized an auction (http://www.edicionuno.com.ar/noticias.php?idnota=7484)of various memorabilia including Donnet's DC United jersey to benefit a local school. They raised AR$10,000 (about $3k) for the school.

LOL! I am fanatico of DC United. It inflates of River. But Donnet does not play for Mouth now. ... And, of course, the former-player of Mouth did not do anything by DC United!

:D

Hincha de River literally means "swelling of River," but has nothin' to do with flooding...it refers to the swelling, seething mass of humanity on the terraces (in River's case, los Borrachos del Tablon).

Mouth is about right...:p;)

here is how the word originated for those who like to know.

feeling lazy but here is the translation

In the first years of century XX, the National of Montevideo (one of the oldest and more famous clubs of Uruguay) had an employee, Prudencio Miguel Reyes, who took care to inflate the balls, and he did to lung. Kings were, in addition, an enthusiastic follower of his equipment, and constantly animated it during all the parties with shouts of "Above National". These shouts his resonated in all the field due to the enormous power of their lungs. Those in favor of the rival equipment were always surprised and asked who was that that shouted so much, and they responded to them: "He is Reyes, the one that inflates the balls", or "He is Reyes, the HINCHA". Those that already knew it commented "Mirá how the fan shouts". Of there, fan happened to denominate first a those in favor of the National who shouted more in the parties; later one extended the other followers of this equipment; and finally to those in favor of all the clubs.

That is the funniest thing I have read in, well, since I read another Big Soccer thread wherein Matt Matthei's citizenship was revoked for his aversion to Old Bay.

A fanatic is more passionate than an hincha. An hincha is a fan, and a fanatic is, well, pretty much anyone who is reading this probably.

Speaking of Boca, did any of you see the Soccer Insider's tickler (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2007/09/dcu_close_to_deal_with_boca_ju.html) that DC United is setting up a 'strategic partnership' with Boca Juniors?

But hey, that's just me.
