WOW! This movie is amazing. It is as factually correct with as much drama as Michael Collins. I'd give it 10/10, honestly. Does anybody know if this movie is being released in the UK, America or anywhere else? It is definitely worth seeing... I'd honestly go to see it again tomorrow if I was asked
For those wondering, in the late 80s/early 90s, Dublin had a huge drug problem and nothing was being done about it. The police had no department set up to deal with it and drug lords quite literally were the law in urban Dublin. In 1994, Veronica Guerin - a reporter for the Irish Independent (national newspaper) - started reporting on crime, and druglords in particular. She fearlessly worked to fight against the scum (and Dublin dealers are true ********ing dirt), which unfortunately led to her death at the age of 38 on June 23, 1996... anybody and everybody Irish knows where they were at that time - I was in a friends house (I was young though, only going on 10) watching TV when the programme was interrupted with the news... I knew a bit about what was going on, since anything to do with her was quite literally the talking point of the nation. A week after her death, the Irish Constitution was altered to allow the gov't to seize property and assets of suspected criminals as well as freeze their income if they couldn't explain where they came from. 1 year after her death, crime in Ireland had fallen by 15%.
EXTRA NOTES:
- The acting in this movie is extremely good, Cate Blanchett put in an award-winning performance.
- Look for a cameo by none other than Colin Farrell! He's only got about 8-10 lines, but it's in direct dialogue with Guerin, so you'll definitely notice him.
- The cinema where I watched the movie (The Classic in Harolds Cross - it's a piece of sh!t) is only a few 100 yards away from where the General lived, and where my friends dad's friend was killed by... the General.
- Good to see that dirtbag Gilligan down for 28 years.
