DC United heads on the road to take on an emerging Chicago Fire squad. During their last encounter with the Fire, DC won 3-1 at RFK. The goal-scorer on that Fire squad was Jerson Monteiro who is now with DC United. Since that game Chicago has added Blanco and Wilman Conde. And as you already know, Olsen, Fred and Gomez will be suspended for this match. Damn, if Olsen, were playing, he could teach this guy a lesson or two:

This match matters a lot.

1. A win helps us get closer to the SS and home field advantage at every level of the playoffs.

2. A win decreases the chances that Chicago will be the 4th seed in the East. That matters tremendously. I'd rather play KC or TFKAM as the 4th seed. Osorio is doing 2 things with the Fire:
--playing bunkerball (or at least not pushing forward, staying compact, denying space). It's not that we can't be that. But for a team that does push forward and will commit numbers to the attack, Chicago more than any other team in MLS is the one we'd be vulnerable to.
--Blanco (who is a truly a wild card in the playoffs).

We match up much better against Chicago now than we did in the Sarachan years (where it was--play directly down the flanks and cross into the center, congest midfield and mug Mo and Go). But they are the team I'm the least interested in facing in the playoffs. I respect everyone and fear no-one. But in terms purely of matchups and playing style, I think the teams that would give us the most trouble are: Chicago, Chivas and then maybe Houston.

Instead, let's see Chicago end up 5th and go the West. There they'd be matched up (probably) with Chivas. And that would be a tough matchup for the Goats who would attack with gusto and leave space for Chicago to counter into.

If DC United wins and helps keep Chicago out of the playoffs, it would even be better!

Nah, I'd rather see Chicago finish 8th than Columbus or Colorado. I think Chicago could knock off the top seed in the West (probably Chivas) b/c their defensive focus plus the ability of Blanco to manufacture a goal is tailor-made for the playoffs and also for an attacking team that gets forward like Chivas. Plus, I think Marsch would pick up a card or two playing a 2 game series against Blanco.

I don't mean to slight the East but I think Chivas is a very strong team followed by Houston (b/c they are so good at shutting the game down once they get a quick lead). So I would shed no tears if someone knocked one of those two big dogs off. And I can't see Colorado or Columbus doing that.

But in any case, it all starts with a DCU win, regardless of what you think of my "grand strategy."

Very good points.

And yes, a DC United win is the answer! :)

What the?! Is this another pro-NFL move? Not that I mind terribly watching the game in spanish, but I'd rather not have to translate for myself.

Q: If Marsch and Blanco get into a fight, who wins?

A: Everybody.

Probably more of a Telefutura owns the rights and any other broadcasts can't be in real time.

It's another game that is broadcast live exclusively on Telefutura.

This being the worst weekend of my entire year at work, what time is the game actually being played and what time is the re-broadcast?

Sorry, I've been out of the loop all week :o

Game is at 3pm on Sunday. Live on TeleFutura.

According to the TV listings on CSN-MidAtlantic's website, as well as DCU's press release, CSN's delay is one hour -- the match is on CSN starting at 4pm.

This is the second consecutive game that I'll have to miss watching most or all of, as both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur fell on United match days this year.

Clearly, Jews hate soccer. Or does soccer hate Jews? ;)

Actually, I think the correct way to look at this is that those of the jewish persuasion actually feel so strongly about DC United and the importance of beating Chicago and continuing the drive to the SS that they will fast, avoid the use of technology and pray across the world. Who knew that DC United had such a world presence? I personally think it's a bit extreme that this devotion would including not being able to watch the game but I suspect it has something to do with bad ju-ju (for instance, like goalkeepers who won't want their team take a critical PK).

Note: and yes, my ju-ju pun was intentional.

I think this might be the worst pun I've seen in a very long time. I include mine. Well done. :)

I am, sadly, unable to rep you, but someone else should jump in to 'pun'ish you. Send you to the punitentiary, as it were. (Or would that by punitive?)

Good news.

Due to a schedule change, I will not be able to attend the match at Toyota Park, so (due to Murphy's Law) you can almost count on a thrilling victory for DC United (that I would have killed to been able to watch)...
