"We lost the 1986 (FIFA World Cup) Final in the Estadio Azteca which, in my opinion, is the most beautiful stadium in the world. I love it, simple as that. It will go down forever as the greatest footballing symbol there is, even though there are other footballing temples scattered around the world.”
Rudi Voller, former Germany forward
"The sight of the confetti raining down from the stands of the Estadio Azteca at the final whistle will remain with me for the rest of my days."
Clodoaldo, Brazilian FIFA World Cup winner in 1970

Theres no better homefield advantage in the world and no better stage for the beautiful game. The opposition might bitch about it, but if Azteca dissapeared they would miss this stadium as well.

It's the most legendary stadium in the world, no doubt about it... something to be proud of. That's something that separates Mexico from the US for example. They hosted a WC but those few US fubol fans can't have something like that. They can never know the feeling of a whole country supporting a single team. They don't have anything like that in any sport. The only time they ever did was their hockey team beating Russia or maybe the New Orleans Saints... I want to go back to Azteca so bad, I haven't been back in 4 years.:(

Are there any plans to renovate the stadium? Last time I was there it was literally falling apart.

need to go to a game in Azteca before i die

Passed by the stadium the only time I was in D. F. and just said to myself that I need to go back and witness a game played there. There is so much history there, I wish they never tear it down.

This is on my "to do" list before I pass to the other world!

by the way im a engineering/Architecture student and i can tell you the Aztec is Structurally Amazing for a great many reasons

and here’s some structural engineering ive done:
this is one of my designs shes pretty kool its
a steel frame uses very little cement is very
strong and uses the Roman Arch all over the
place...[its kind of my Trade mark] and the Exterior
because the whole thing is a steel frame could be
all glass...its basically a modern glass and steel Roman
coliseum BUt way bigger 80,000 people bigger
its no Aztec but hell pretty good for a kid right?!

Ps like the coliseum the stadium field is a stage which is above ground and bellow
You have locker rooms tunnels and basically the whole heart of the giant and it has a side entrance to wich the tunnels connect to inside the stadium big enough for a buss to drive right in so you can have a sports team drive right in to the locker room and not have to deal with the crowd pretty sick crowd control By the way I got an A for it...it was my final this last semester…I kicked every body’s ass in my class the rest of them all designed really nice houses and I came in with this sweetheart….

No we don't need a "world class stadium." We can use those stadiums next time we host a world cup, not now. I'm cool w/ Azteca as it is right now and it's world class enough for me. Those stadiums are too damn expensive. Our country has enough problems to deal with right now. Besides, it's not like there are any other stadiums like Arsenal Emirates anywhere in America. At least we've got decent fields... the Azteca field and drainage system is world class. No other latino country has fields like ours. Whenever I see the Colombian League or the Argentinian league, the fields are crappier than ours.

There is no chance in hell that Mexico gets another world cup unless they completely rethink their entire stadium situation. There is no question that Estadio Azteca is a temple, but it is also a relic. It doesn't need to be demolished, but it needs to be refurbished. Mexico City needs a new football palace in addition to the azteca, as do Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

If South Africa can get a world cup berth, then we don't need stadiums like Emirates Stadium... we do need to do some remodeling, so I agree w/ you there. A new stadium costs a lot of money and I'd rather see our government spend money on other things, that's just me.

The government dosnt pay for Soccer stadiums succesfull soccer clubs do..And i think Club America can afford to upgrade the Aztec and i also think they owe it to her too..

They can get building lones but thats pretty typical for most building's in america and im pretty sure that the FMF would give them some money if they wanted to remodel as its also the home of the NT and Televisa would bark up some cash too im sure,,,BUt if they want im sure that all 3 of them Club America ,Televisa ,and the FMF could bark up the money,,,
