This is one of the rare moments in pop chart history when quality has been rewarded. I was trying to explain the "battle" to someone who is a new parent and thus didn't know about it. To describe Kanye I had a million things to say, "complex and multitalented, maybe the most vital popular artist in all of music." All I could come up with for 50 was "gangsta cartoon".

Kanye is monumentally overrated. Just the fact that he sold 930,251 copies is incredibly sad, and in my opinion more a matter of "the emperors clothes" being rewarded than actual quality.

Yes, he definitely is overrated. Both he and 50 cent are. Neither are as bad as some of the alternatives, but they are both vastly subpar to pretty most things underground.

Correct. I've got no idea what the story is here.

You have GOT to be kidding.

He doesn't have top-notch rhyme skills - 50 without a doubt kills him on skills - but his lyrical content and, of course, production are first-rate, top-of-the-game stuff.

I think both are smiling at the moment, this media frenzy over their "supposed" rivalry upped sales for both of them either way so who really cares?

Personally, I prefer #3 on this list.

I love underground hip hop. But all three of Kanye's albums are fantastic, and his latest is his best release yet.

Mind telling me what you consider the best tracks on said albums? Because we might be talking about a different Kanye West here. The one I know released three albums of rip-offs.

Lighten up, do you know anything more subjective than musical taste?

But tell me, which of his recent hit singles did not rely heavily on the catchiness of the samples he used?

I agree that there are probably "better" underground artists than Kanye and 50 Cent, but I don't know who they are.

For all those that believe this, please name some. It would also be helpful if you list some of their songs that could be marketed to mass-America. I know you can come up with something lyrically superior, but give me something catchy.

So nothing, huh?
