A huge and heartfelt Thank You to the Cauldron for being such gracious hosts last Saturday at the KC v C-bus game! You certainly made three out of towners feel welcome. A special thanks to Alan who traveled out of his way to pick us up at the airport hotel, take us to the game, and return us to the hotel.

KC fans are the best!

Great that you came out. And to see what ended as an exciting game too.

I was at the LA game and was impressed with the level of enthusiasm in the cauldron, but I was taken aback by the Che Guevara flag that was waved during the game. Many cauldron regulars probably don't know who Che really was, but I would hope that if they knew the truth that they would not welcome the flag in the cauldron. Some think he represents freedom and social justice, but the opposite is true. Che was Castro's primary thug who presided over summary executions of innocent people, established a labor camp system where many more suffered and died, and helped establish an unjust social system in Cuba. How he fits into cheering for the Wizards, I don't understand.

that flag belongs to the argentines. yeah it wouldn't make any sense if a bunch of americans had that flag.

plenty of americans like che guevara.

i am ambivalent about che. i wouldn't say that about his relation to castro. guevara traveled and had interactions with a lot of different nations. it would be hard for me to say he didn't do a lot of good along the way, and inspiring other groups to keep fighting the good fight. in fact, if he had stayed alive, i don't think cuba would be quite the same, as he and castro had some differing approaches... but that's hard to say considering u.n. sanctions, etc. but i do realize he had brutal methods with his enemies... then again, it's rare to find a political leader that doesn't.

anyway, lots of supporters groups and social movements use his image. don't be surprised by it, it's everywhere.

i like the native american logo used by ultras red side (chicago)... although i don't know who it is. i've considered getting a kaw or osage nation flag, and would be interested in using imagery of geronimo, wovoka, lili'uokalani, sitting bull, john brown, etc... but i plan to hold that idea for the distant future.

Che does seem to be the Trotsky of Latin America. Every sympathizer and hater alike projects whatever they like onto him at will. Meanwhile almost no one actually knows who the hell he really was. That's why he's so handy as a symbol I suppose.

You might stir up our acid-warsh (yes that's how they say it) wearing friends to the east again if you trot out John Brown; I'm not sure that's such a great idea. Just too many painful memories... Apparently, contrary to commonly held belief, John Brown dropped the first Hydrogen Bomb on Osceola and the natives responded the only way their pacifist religious beliefs and lack of defenses would allow--a stern letter of rebuke to the Lawrence city council. :D

And that's as close as you can get to trolling on your own board, I do believe.

actually, john brown is the one person on my list i don't know a whole hell of a lot about, i only dropped it in there as an offering for the people on the kansas side. although, personally, to hell with kansas. i assume from the sarcasm that that was just a jab at the left. yet i would otherwise be impressed with the range of the ballistic missiles that kansas had prior to the civil war.

I'll add my thanks to the Cauldron for letting me tailgate with you guys on Friday. You're a cool bunch of supporters and I'm sure under the new management you'll continue to draw greater numbers.

Had a great time in KC and I'm definitely going to try to make it back out next year.

See you in the playoffs!

Saw on AOL news today that the 3rd highest paid comedian is Larry the Cable Guy. Over $21M last year. Not bad for a guy who has to give his audience cues to laugh..."..that's fuhnny riaht there."

I've always considered comedy to be something that should be devoid of pc view, but it is a little worrisome that his brand of comedy - which occasionally delves into pseudo-racist touchstones - resonates the largest with America as the Top 2 are also TV moguls in addition to being commedians (Seinfeld, Letterman)
