View Full Version : Ze Zizzo gameday thread (R)
Zis way there won't be a new thread with like 2 replys for every minute he plays.
After he made his debut for 96 II against Meppen last week where he scored a goal he played his 2nd game today against Altona 93 (club from Hamburg for all those that think St Pauli is too boring and conservative  ) and was ejected for 'violent conduct' in the 78th minute.
According to posters on the German 96 board (http://www.das-fanmagazin.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=25912&page=85) the red-card was not deserved though and the referee was supposedly terrible.

Thanks and keep the message board links coming.
What do you think about Andreas Bergmann as coach? He had a pretty good record at Pauli, and it seems like a good thing to have somebody like him as the coach of the II. Mannschaft.

Well, to be totally honest I have absolutely no idea.
I didn't really follow St. Pauli that much and in the end he was fired and his successor got them promoted.
Still the fact that 96 chose an "established" coach for their 2nd team imo shows that they are now willing to use the 2nd team as a development team for the first team.
Like I said in previous threads about Zizzo in the past the 2nd team was neglected and I can't remember any player making the big team after playing for the U23 for a while.
Players like Rosenthal and Mertesacker joined the Bundesliga team straight from the juniors.
A poster on the German forums put it quite well:
"The 96 reserves tend to suck all talent out of the players."
This season Zizzo actually has quite a few talented teammates in frenchman Gaetan Krebs, Silvio Schröter and Turkish U19 player Bikmaz.
German U21 defender Sören Halfar who was born just three months earlier than Zizzo was loaned out to 2. Bundesliga side Paderborn to get minutes as the Oberliga was considered not good enough for his development though.
This season also is very important for all German lower leagues because after this season there will only be one 3. Bundeslifa instead of two Regionalligas, three 4th level leagues (then called Regionalliga) and 5 Oberligas (then 5th level).
96 II has to finish 5th to gain direct promotion to the new Rgionalliga (4th level).

Then why should it be good enough for Zizzo?

Exactly...
MY guess is that they feel that Zizzo really nees to adapt to a new country, language and professional football first unlike Halfar. (That's also my opinion btw.)
He already trains and gets a lot of minutes in test-games with the first team.
He might he a few minutes soon as Rosenthal and Pinto who usually play on the right are really struggeling right now.

and 5 Oberligas (then 5th level).
As of now it's still inclear how many 5th division leagues there will be now. It's very likely that there will be 5 leagues in Northern Germany alone, however (the Northern German FA voted to abolish the OL Nord already, although it still needs to be confirmed).

I would vote for this-- it's quite a transition he's going through-- UCLA to pro soccer, USA to Germany. Give him some time to settle in.
Zizzo has been suspended for three games for his headbutt.
He missed the first game yesterday.

Just curious, but how do you say headbutt in German?

That's Colonel Kopfstoß to you, pal!
Hannover 96 II played 3:3 in Osterholz-Scharmbeck in front of 210 fans  .
Zizzo was subbed out in the 78. minute.
Don't know if he was involved in the goals

96 II lost to a village team again today.
My father actually watched the game and was not impressed with Zizzo.
Reading some comments of people in the German 96 message boards who attend 96II games regularly he really needs to step it up if he wants to have a shot in the first team.
Right now he's not looking out of place in the 4th level which is not a good thing.
Frenchman Gaetan Krebs looked a lot better and scored quite a few goals and hasn't been called up to the first team either so I guess Zizzo is even further off.
Furtermore Sal was dissed by 96's record goalscorer and legend Dieter Schatzschneider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Schatzschneider) (who's a loudmouthed idiot btw) just recently in the daily tabloid BILD (http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/sport/bundesliga/vereine/hannover/2007/10/24/schatz/transfer-tuev,geo=2741680.html):
I watched him with the amateurs and he's only fast but you also have to be able to work with the ball. He can't help us yet.

That village is bigger than Hannover actually ;).

Lol. I assumed Oberneuland was a village.
Still, it's not exactly a team Hannover's 2nd team should lose to at home with players like Kleine and Krebs playing.

To be fair, it's kind of a suburb and not exactly urban there. They have quite a bit of money for a team on that level (Oberneuland is Bremen's "exclusive residential area" (I couldn't think of a good translation for "Villenviertel", and the dictionary only had this :D)).

"I don't know how fast I will get into the (first) team. It's up to the coach and it could be a while or even the next game - we will see."
"Our coach is doing a very good job and it's hard for him to make any changes," he said, noting that Die Roten are currently fighting for traction near the top of the Bundesliga table. "Right now, it's important for me to get 90 minute games playing with the reserves team - it is good for me and the teams are not locked."
While getting his schooling in the fourth flight Oberliga, Zizzo is taking all kinds of lessons. A week after scoring his first professional goal at Meppen, he was duped into a red card against Altona.
"There was a foul and then we each got into each other's face," he recalled. "I didn't touch him, but he flopped back and acted like I headbutted him. In the US, you are used to getting into each other's faces, talking with each other and then backing up. The referee thought I headbutted him and I can't really say anything."
With the club enjoying good health this term, Zizzo is playing a right side waiting game behind young veterans with standout experience, such as Jan Rosenthal and Hanno Balitsch.
"Yes, we have a lot of players on our position," he agreed. "It's like a 4-2-3-1 and there are two outside guys of three positions. I could play mainly on the right side. It's hard and we have some guys on the bench who are also very good, but don't play."
....
I think he'll either be gone or loaned out next season.
The 2nd half of this season will be very important imo. Should he not stand out in 4th level Oberliga then (he doesn't right now) I doubt we'll see him play Bundesliga next season.

Hard to argue with this, other than hope your evaluation of Zizzo at that level is wrong.
