Gooch and Standard Liege are about to start their match versus KAA Gent in Belgium.

If you haven't been paying attention, Standard Liege have come out of the gate blazing with a 5-0 record and top the table. After these games they have a goal difference of +14.

They've also qualified for the UEFA Cup, and have a match coming up on 09/20 against Zenit St. Petersburg in the 1st round. That's a home and away deal prior to the group stages. The first match is AWAY in St. Petersburg.

Regardless of today's result, Liege will remain in first. Anderlecht could only manage a home draw this weekend.

A win, and Liege starts to open up some distance. Its 0-0 in the 40'.

Thy's 70th minute goals was "a little bit against the run of play" or so the match report said, but was a "bonne frappe."

The usual pairing of Gooch and Saar. Saw something to suggest Jovanovich was not 100% even tho he played. The cost of internationals, perhaps.

Isn't Dick Advocaat at Zenit these days - or has he already gone down under?

This is a few days old, but the following page has a clip of both goals:

Gent's equalizer passes right under Gooch's foot. Good slow-mo replay. It was probably a lot tougher to stop at full speed.
