Not like we talk much about the NBA right now, but news today is that Greg Oden is out for the season with microfracture knee surgery

DAMN!!!!

They werent going anywhere anyway. They should have kept Steve Francis.

Also, the Celtics will not be a top 5 seed in the eastern conference. Despite KG, RAy Alen, and The truth.

Have they mentioned when he hurt the knee, was it during the summer or before?

They haven't found out yet. He just said it started hurting a few days ago. Other teams said his knees looked arthritic when he was doing medicals, though, so there were signs.

Hopefully he can come back from this. A couple guys have bounced back from microfracture knee surgery, namely Kidd and Stoudemire, but it takes time they are really the only 2.

Like I've said before I'm not a huge NBA fan but the Oden news is heartbreaking. He seems like such a nice, young man that for something to happen like this to him... Portland just seemed to be turning themselves around as well.

Good news is (I guess) that he's still only 19 so you assume he can recover fairly quickly and fully. Although the injury prone tag is going to get thrown around more with him now.

Sad to hear about Oden. The Blazers, along with the T-Wolves and Warriors, will be exiting to wathc as their young gunz evolve to mature players. All 3 of those teams have the potential to dominate their conference IMHO. And I'm not even a fan of any of them so there is no bias there.

Finally somebody agrees with me. The Celtics are WAYY overrated. One injury to any of those key players and there goes the season. Not to mention the team traded away its whole future as a franshise for the Big Ticket. Sure eh'll put up good numbers but the rest of the team is anemic. The Truth and the Shooter are injuries waiting to happen. The Shooter was supposed to retire this summer but I guess he just wants to injure himself some more. I think the Bobcats will do better than the Celtics. Yeah I said it. Go quote me biatches!

I couldn't guarantee 5th in the East, but I think they will make the playoffs. They are in the East after all.

Am I the only one who thinks Cleveland, last year's East representative, was a bad team? Without injuries, I find it difficult to find five teams better than the Celtics in the East.

The Celtics are going to be tough this year..

I'd go with the Pistons, Heat, and maybe Jersey as better, but that's it. 5th isn't out of their reach. KG scored 20+ points a game against good players in the West - the East shouldn't be too hard after that. The Celtics will be good - even if they didn't have Ray Allen, they would be contending.

Detroit, Miami, Chicago, New Jersey, and the Washington Wizards. Believe it or not, the Wizards before all their injuries were 2nd seed in the east, and were winning a huge majority of their games.

What type of basketball will the Celtics play with all three on the court? I just cant imagine how all of them will fit into a good gameplay that will consistantly work for them. Who is going to take a backseat? The only person who I see being humble enough to do that, is Ray Allen.

the only selfish guy is paul pierce. garnett will do the dirty work and let allen/pierce fill it up. i think it will work in that weak east.

nice to see my boys lock up harris yesterday.

I can't really nitpick about the teams that you mention. All of them may be better, but all have holes, as do the Celtics.

As for who is going to defer to whom, Garnett will be the unquestioned leader. Pierce has always been uncomfortable being The Man. (Although no so uncomfortable that it stopped him from taking shots.) Pierce and Allen will defer to Garnett. As long as they can get the ball up the court, offense shouldn't be a problem. On the other end, they need to be able to defend at the rim. For the first time in a number of years, basketball should be interesting in Boston.

I can see the Raptors taking the 5 spot. Its not out of reach. They have such a talented, young squad. I heart Chris Bosh :)

You almost made me fall out of my chair.

Orlando will be as joke this year as they always are. Howard will always be a beast Lewis will score some but the rest of the team...sucks.
