Letter from Iwo Jima ~ C. Eastwood
I liked it, though I'm tiring of the Spielberged vision of WWII. The performances were outstanding.

The Lives of Others ~ Henckel von Donnersmarck
Excellent movie.

A quick note on Terror in a Texas Town: I just found out it was Joseph Lewis' last film. He was never allowed to direct a film again and spent the next five years directing 54 episodes of The Rifleman:eek:
The only other movies I've seen of his are Gun Crazy and The Big Combo. Three films, three masterpieces and I've never really considered him a major director. I'm going to have to track down some of his other stuff.
Edit: After some tracking:
7th Cavalry dvd: $119 (http://www.amazon.com/7th-Cavalry/dp/B000QJM82I/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1042303-1788022?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1189700338&sr=1-1)

Checking out Wes Anderson's films again before his next one opens.
I liked After the Wedding. Some of the reviews I saw said it was like a Danish soap opera which I can see but the acting, scenery, etc are way better. Really like Mads Mikkelsen who was also good in Casino Royale & The Pusher.

I think it may have been Fred Camper who tracked down almost all of Lewis' work, including his television work, and said it's all pretty great.

hangthadj: After the Wedding is worth it. I loved it and I'm not a big Dogme 95 fan, but this film was all sorts of cool. It's probably the most suspenseful family melodrama that I've seen in a long time, or quite possibly ever.

Love this movie. Kind of laughted because most of the home movies of my kids look like bad copies of the inquisitory dialogues in this.
Also mixed up the ending with the ending of The Dreamlife of Angels.
I need to keep this going (seeing some more Godard). I am starting to formulate why the Godard characters don't interest me as much as the older Bergman characters. Neither are particularly fun, but the Bergman characters' quietness fools me into thinking they have more heft.
Maybe Godard is about sociology and Bergman is about psychology.

I generally agree with this. Godard movies don't typically have characters, they only have actors. But when that actor is Karina or Belmondo, I'm not sure what more identification you need.

At least you know and can admit to being fooled.

I just didn't feel like being beaten down by the usual nonsensical blather.

Adrian Grenier's documentary Shot In The Dark. Starts off slow, but gets a heck of a lot more interesting when he actually starts his trek to meet a father he hasn't seen in 18 years. Decent.

Funny, better than Talladega Nights which is not saying much though.
