Didn't see anyone else starting it so..........

2 - 1 to the good guys

No flames. No trolls.

Not very cohesive and we played down to the compeition. We allowed them to hold the ball and play their game for much of the game.

But 3 points is 3 points.

Can one of the mods sticky this?

Discuss..........

Anyone know is CSN will be replaying the game?

We looked tired as hell. That's understandable, given our recent schedule.

we played well for about 20 minutes until the adrenaline ran out. Then we sagged badly.

The adjustments at halftime were good, and after a little bit, we settled into a better rhythm of defending and countering.

RSL is a greatly improved team, but we didn't close them down quickly enough. A lot of the game was spent watching them move the ball around the perimeter like the Ajax teams of the 80s.

Still, we did enough to take three points. Now we can rest.

As an aside, refs hardly ever make good calls when their eyes are OPEN WIDE IN FEAR. There were some mystifying calls. I thought I knew a bit about soccer, but I guess I don't.

It was great to see Eddie be honored. I miss seeing him on our team. I took some pictures, and I'll put them up soon.

Just back. Geez that was one piece of crap ref.

The PK he gave to them appeared to be complete crap. The replay on the big screen seemed to show McTavish getting creamed, and then he calls a PK on us? WTF?

What did the TV show?

In any case, good win, 3 points for the good guys.

yea, not the best win, but a win nonetheless.

Played through some bad calls that put us in some scary positions and now suspended some of our guys, but what can you do.

I think we will be fine in the next game even with the suspension because we have so much depth those guys can fill the spots and thats why we will be playing on Nov 18:)

I think Friday at 7 is the replay

The PK was complete BS. yea a little jersey tug, but then tally through him to the grass by his head... But on the other hand our PK was the best call either... tough call, in the box or not, enough contact...

Yup. Everyone gave Eddie a good cheer at the start. They showed some nice clips of Eddie on the big screen that drew some excellent cheers.

At the end of the game, Eddie, Nicky, and Ben had a nice chat at the center of the pitch while Esky came over and shook hands with folks by the Barra and Eagles. A classy group of ex-United players.

Olsen, Fred and Gomito out for the Chicago game.

But then again, we were missing Gomez, Fred and Moreno for a lot of the Revs game and we still waxed them 3-0.

As for tonight, I'm not quite sure United matched RSL's intesity, but it was clear who had the better more skillful players and it showed on both of United's goals.

As will be mentioned ad naseum over the next 24 hours, that referee was pathetic. Inconsistent and downright mystifiying in some of his calls, for both teams.

7 point lead for the Shield. Great way to relax and watch the rest of the league matches this weekend.

Agreed.

First minutes until the goal were good. Then we played boring iuninspired soccer.

Last 30 minutes though things were turned up bigtime, and we got the deserved win.

Do the games in the ethnic leagues in NYC only last 60 minutes? Because it seemed like that's about when he completely lost his head. I disagreed with some of his decisions earlier, but that's what judgment is all about. He called a pretty consistent game, and kept play flowing smoothly. Late in the game, though, he seemed to panic, or get flustered, and didn't seem to handle the extra chippiness that crept into the game.

Have to agree with Matt. Thought the ref was consistent and pretty accurate in the beginning but then the wheels came off. Like he was keeping score before blowing the whistle. Was really surprised that Devon didn't receive his second yellow on two occasions including the PK. I kept wishing TS would bring on Vanney for him so we wouldn't go a man down. Gomito deserved his yellow. A poor foul in the middle of the field. But actually thought that Mantilla deserved a yellow for the scissors tackle on Gomez at the 18 and he should have been tossed for his mid-field yellow. He really didn't want to bring out the red card.

Are you for rizzle?!?!?! you think he should have got tossed after the ghey PK call. You can't be serious!?!? They were both doing a little grabbing, but didn't you see him get grabbed by the head and jersey and thrown to the ground!!!

I don't see the PK nor a yellow, let a lone a second in that situation

I normally can't stand complaints about the ref, but man, that guy sucked.

Couldn't tell if we were really that tired or just didn't have the balls to put this away. We had several 2 on 2's, 3 on 3's and 3 on 2's with their defenders on their heels in the second half and we couldn't get a decent shot on net.

Mantilla probably should have gotten a red card for that Ric Flair chopblock on Gomez, and he certainly should have gotten one for placing his hands on the official and trying to stop him from reaching for his card.

We are nothing if not a talented offensive team, and RSL is no defensive juggernaut.

For most of the night we lacked the energy for that burst of speed that creates the space to shoot.

This rest is going to do us a world of good.

Just got back home, as everyone else has said... the ref blew donkeys this game, but I've come to expect that from MLS refs. I'm glad we're able to dig out another win, it showed character.

I hope our boys get nice and rested for the next couple of weeks, cause the schedule is just brutal after that.

I didn't say he deserved it but after Devon's first yellow, he took out a RSL player and the ref signaled play on due to possession then walked toward him when played stopped. Probably realized he already had a yellow and pointed at him like he made a mental note. So when he called that PK on Devon I was afraid that was it.

Oh ok... I thought he was getting booked on the one at mid field also cuz like you said the ref pointed at him and that usually measn your getting one after the play

Anybody else sorry to see Kpene leave at the half? I thought he was doing well up front with Emilio. Does well receiving the ball and turning on the defender. Seems fearless and doesn't give the ball up easily. Good flicks to teammates. Good speed.

Also we saw a very interesting alignment to start the 2nd half. Fred comes in and Gomez moves to the front line. So you think Fred would have a shot at the AM but he is out on the wing and Benny has slid into the middle.
Maybe that was to give Benny a little bit of a break going up and down the field as Fred was fresh for the 2nd half???? It worked but seemed odd.

Would also like to hear thoughts about how Carroll and Boswell did this game? Thought one of them or both were guilty in letting Beckerman way too much space and time when he scored. Need to see the replay to see where BC was but Boz was very late in stepping out.

Worst refereeing I've seen this season. Just awful.

Oh, and for those of you who've seen the movie Slapshot: RSL's new Argies are the Hansen brothers. Seriously. That's their whole game.
