Yeah, great take. But replace LD? Hopefully Bradley can figure out a great formation where both Dempsey and LD excel. LOL, wait until Adu gets his call-up. How the heck is he going to fit into all this!??!
Anyway, yeah, Deuce the man.

Nice to see an interview, but it was a little dumb in places. JOB can't get a gig in MLS? The writer makes a passing reference to injuries, but makes it sound like JOB is just out of favor at the moment.
And implying that Dempsey is being held back from the attacking mid spot because that's for Donovan? When is the last time Donovan played attacking mid? Even withdrawn forward was Josh Wolff's job in the Brazil game. We don't even really have an attacking mid. Dempsey is getting a lot more glory up front scoring goals.
I see Dempsey & Donovan as somewhat interchangeable parts as primarily right-sided attackers, depending on the needs, and it's good to have them both in the attack.

you can tell the interviewer is not good at all at interviewing, and it's kind of stupid in spots...still i liked it until the last line....never even so much as whisper the word injuries when we're talking about one of our most important players, come on now.

IMO you hit on the big problem I saw in the Brazil match, no a-mid in a formation that needed one. If we play that set (the midfield bucket), then we need Feilhaber to do something offensively or have a McBride equivalent to hold up the ball. Neither was there last Sunday, and we were static in the offense.

Donovan did not say that JOB was the best player -- he said Reyna was. To my mind, he was about a year or so off in that assessment. Reyna had an awful Cup, and has subsequently been exposed.
It would be very cool if Dempsey were to succeed in the Prem, and the press latched on to a sort of Donovan vs. Dempsey thing. I think it's hard to deny that LD has more talent than anyone, but has chosen to waste it.
Clint isn't uniquely driven. I think most anyone with his talent would go to Europe and commit themselves to making it. Certainly Adu is doing it and Altidore will be doing it.

-----Donovan------Adu-----
-----------Dempsey-------
The real question is what to do when both Adu and Altidore come along.
---------------GK--------------
RB-------CB-------CB-------LB
------------Feilhaber----------
Donovan---------------Beasley
--------------Adu---------------
------Dempsey--Altidore------
Maybe? or what if we played 3 in the back with Bradley just in front playing more like a Stopper. A little more defensively dedicated than a D-mid. Playing like a CB when in our own half but pushing just ahead of the backline when in the offensive half. I know Bob would never do this but I'm a big believer that your system/formation should be determined by which one gets your best 11 on the field rather than trying to fit your players to the system.
When on offense:
----------------GK----------------
-----RB--------CB---------LB----
--------------Bradley------------
Donovan---Feilhaber---Beasley
---------------Adu---------------
-----Dempsey----Altidore-------
When on defense:
---------------GK---------------
---RB----Bradley-CB-----LB---
------------Feilhaber-----------
Donovan-----Adu-----Beasley
-----Dempsey----Altidore-----
I know a 3-man back line isn't in favor but I actually believe we are well suited to it with players that have decent size and man-marking abilities to play RB and LB (Spector, Bornstein, Pearce, Boca, Gibbs if he gets back to his previous form) and a D-mid (Bradley) with the height to mark strikers and generally play as a CB in deadball situations. Unfortunately it doesn't play to the strength of one of our most consistant and experienced defenders in Cherundolo.

Did Eddie Pope waste his talent?
Did Brian McBride waste his talent all those years before he went to Fulham?
Since when did becoming the USMNT's all time leading scorer and assist man mean you're wasting your talent?
I think you can take your waste and shove it right back up where it came from.

players should play WHERE they feel comfortable, NOT where strangers want them to play...
pope is a perfect example of a home body, put him in a different country and you don't know how his relative shyness would have yielded...he had chances, but said no...
donovan, california weather, certain celebrity girlfriend, he has his priorities and follows his drummer...
wonder how many posters would want others telling them how to lead their respective life
