That looks like a nice ball. I think the texture might help when its wet because i played with my teamgeist in the rain the other day and it was really slippy.

akirika, if you arent sure about the ball and it seems to me that your gut feeling is telling you that its a fake. Steer clear of it. I'm sure if you keep looking you'll get a decent ball.

I keep trying to edit my former post, but I can't seem to...so pardon the repost. I didn't mean it too look like I was just commenting on the new Teamgeist (plus I have a typo).

Relating to that, does anyone know a good ball that I could find in the 50-100 dollar range that would both play nicely and hold up on a less than ideal surface?

You can find Nike Aerows and Adidas Teamgeists in that range, on ebay. And you may find them on some internet shops for under $100.

Picked up last season's Aerow off Ebay for £20 which should be here sometime this week. If the guy has mis-sold me a cheaper model I'm going to hunt him down. He has good feedback and the pics and description are all definitely of the Aerow so it should be ok.

I didn't used to like Nike balls but we've been playing with Aerows as our match balls and I really like them now. I've gone right off Mitre balls - we played with one a couple of weeks ago in a game and it felt terrible in comparison.

I'll have to keep my eye on Ebay. Both the Teamgeist and Aerow would hold up decently well then, even if playing on a less than ideal pitch?

Thanks a lot!

The answer to your prayers..

Total 90 Aerow I, in the normal color, not hi-vis for once for about $45 US + shipping. I just bought two, came out to $133 US, so it's a 2 for 1 deal. Considerably less if you live in the UK because of shipping.

Wow that is a good deal. Thanks a lot. Maybe I'll send one to my brother (who's in England right now) then have him bring it back for me.

I saw that auction and almost went for it but the hi vis one was a bit cheaper and I quite like playing with the hi vis ball.

That's the auction I used so you can see the selller. The ball arrived yesterday and is perfect. It's the right model, brand new, in the box and was well packed.

Vapor 69.99 at Eastbay

Ooooh, now I'm tempted to get the vapor (aside from the fact I don't like it's color scheme). I would feel a bit safer dealing with a reputable company in my own country. If only it wasn't so ugly... ha Though I admit I haven't seen it in person too often.

Edit: Somehow I think reading all the seemingly good sounding options on this forum makes me even less decisive...

I just bought one of these:
http://a712.g.akamai.net/7/712/225/v20061013eb/www.eastbay.com/images/products/zoom/501253_z.jpg

It was $25 on Eastbay (plus 6-7 bucks shipping as it was my only item). This will def. hold me over for the rest of my 7v7 mini-season on our really rough (rocks, glass and chain link fences) pitch. Then, I'll watch for an Aerow or Teamgeist over the winter.

Question: Are Mercurial Vapors basically Nike's US version of the Aerow? Almost all the Aerows I see are for Britain. While the MV may play as well, I just have a hard time paying a decent amount for a ball I think is tremendously ugly...

no its not the US version of it...they're two different balls

plenty of places have aerows in the USA...soccer.com as well as most other places

i guess the british have a ton of aerows sitting in boxes and theyre selling them for cheap

you can buy a vapor and aerows both in the usa and britain

Yeah I realized after I wrote it that my question was horribly phrased. The Aerow was actually the first high end ball I ever played with (I'm from the US). I just wondered if Nike pushed the MV much more than the Aerow in the US and did the opposite in Britain given the stocks I was seeing. Also, my brother tells me that the team at his school (UVA) plays with Vapors. If I was choosing for the same price (assuming there wasn't a notable benefit in play), I'd definitely go for the Aerow II.

i think that neither ball is pushed that much in the US, simply because adidas makes matchballs for MLS and for most college games you see as well

the premier leagues all huge and it uses the aerow so uk people buy more

adidas balls are pushed more than anything else in the US, because the stupid mls uses them

This makes sense. I admit that I have found myself lusting after a Teamgeist as I watch a DC United game...

What is the difference?

What is the difference?

I think it's just the color scheme. Both have the dual hex design, but I've never actually played with a real Vapor ball, just replicas so I can't be sure on how the ball performs. The T90 balls have the stripes, the Vapor balls have that odd half and half dealie. I don't think anyone really liked the half and half thing. For example, the US used the Vapor ball for some friendlies. The first game it was the half and half, every subsequent game they had the Vapor ball but the gold was only a single stripe down the middle of the ball. Think the T90 Aerow I without the stripes on either side of the middle stripe.

The half and half is very visually distracting, at least for me. I had a hard time watching when a game was played with that ball. I'm sure keepers hated it as well.
