If you plan on watching the 7:00 tape delay broadcast on CSN and don't want the result spoiled, then don't click on this thread. There will be a separate thread for that match.

No USA-Brazil scores here either.

Nope, you called it. Nothing truly nightmare-inducing for Reis (except he couldn't hold a lead (hehheh)), but a good sold effort by the lads.

Great result and a very important one. Emilio is turning out to be every bit the goalscorer DC was looking for. He's up to 18 on the season!

Fantastic that they were able to keep the game in check and put it away after giving up a goal at the close of the first half - not normally a good sign for us.

Although I wasn't at the game, I've decided to post here rather than the "followed on matchtracker from my hotel room in Prague postgame thread." ;)

A little bit of me wishes we'd just won 4-0. But I'm a greedy SOB. I look at the playoffs and I know that play will rachet up. I know that teams will foul more. I know that teams will go up against the top goal scoring team in MLS and seek to defend.

So we just faced the team in MLS that has had arguably the most consistently good season (ie: not consistently bad ala LAG or RSL and not a bad opening streak ala DCU), the team in the MLS that probably does a better job fouling off the ball and fouling after the pass, the team that probably does the best job of getting inside the head of opposing attacking players, and the coach in MLS that probably does the best job of tactically anticipating what you're going to do and denying it. And we trailed. And then got the game back and displayed a killer's instinct at getting the lead and then extending it. And it's very, very, very reassuring to see diversity among the goal scorers (take that--any team that intends to blanket Emilio) and it's also reassuring to see Emilio deal with NE's tactics and not lose his patience, hang in there and work and perserve and then score (which is the sign of a great goal scorer--do you have the patience to stick with it and look for that 1/2 second where a chance presents itself).

Me like. Me like very much. Furthermore, this is exactly the kind of match that prepares a team for the playoffs. I think about the Andrulis Crew team that did well all season, went into the playoffs where Andrulis played Dante Washington instead of Buddle (who had been hot all season), they went down and you could just sense that team tighten up thinking "man, we've never been in this situation all year--having a 'must win' game and being under pressure--what do we do?"

Finally, at the risk of sounding arrogant and just a shade obnoxious, DCU is in the midst of a tough schedule. We've just completed 10 matches in 30 days--7 of them on the road. With games against Houston, Dallas, Chivas, NE--teams at the top of the MLS standings. I bet most of us, if in looking at the combination of road games and fixture congestion, a couple of weeks ago were prepared for a couple of tough matches with a few losses. If we had been asked to bet how many points we'd be satisified with getting during this string...well, most of us trying to be realistic would have said something like 7 points from the 7 road games would be outstanding (say...1 win, 3 ties, 3 losses). Instead, we get 13 points from the away MLS matches, good results at home and a 9 game unbeaten string.

Yeah. We are three points ahead of NE, we played the same number of games, and we own the tiebreaker. Technically Chivas is in 2nd for the SS but they can't pass us with their games in hand and we own the tiebreaker with them too.
