If Hugo tries to put too many youngsters in at once Panama will take advantage of it. Panama is no cakewalk anymore and their athleticism will give Mexico fits.

What I would like to see is how these guys react to a team that might drop back into a defensive shell. These youngsters have never been able to hold much possession and it seems to me that they are not used to it either. Hopefully with the inclusions of some over age players they could start getting a handle on knocking the ball around through out the field.

We will see

Heard the part of the supposed starting line up on Titulares

Esparza--Catita---Magallon----Salcido
Guerrero--Hernandez--Correa------X--

I believe the team should learn how to play without Torrado in the midfield more than anything else.

Reason being that Guardado, Gio and Vela's time away for non-FIFA dates will be more than sufficient to test out their backups in their respective positions, assuming the three keep their game up by the time the Olympics roll around (why Guardado and Gio would drop in form is beyond me).

Vela, to me, is the odd man out of the youth abroad.

I just haven't seen enough of him with the national team (at any level lately - Pre-Mundial and Mundial) to make me think he can flat out earn a spot over the Nery/Cacho tandem. This is, of course, a bunch of speculation until we see Vela play tomorrow and in the following matches/Spanish season. Gio made Vela better in Peru. Vela did his own in Salamanca. Canada was unimpressive. Let's see what the next couple of tryouts bring.

For the Olympics, we can't have Nery and Cacho but we can have Nery and Gio. I want to see Nery, Gio and Vela all on the pitch at the same time eventually, but right now, as far as training and preparation goes, Vela is the odd man out until Cacho is ineligible (Pre-Olimpico).

I would have liked to not have The Captain for either of the two matches this week because of cohesion.

While I believe we have apt centrebacks and wingers at the youth level, I'm not too convinced about our outside backs. Esparza is the more solid of the two, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say Salcido should play LB and be the senior defender while Marquez rests next summer.

Yes, no Magallon.

Moreno and Dominguez are good enough.

Aldrete, not so much.

Which is why I ask for Salcido.

I believe in Capitan Araujo as a CB or DM (for the Olympic team), and Hernandez is a stud (1st game of Canada being the exception). Esparza, in a worst case scenario, could play as a right DM. Hopefully Hugo Sanchez tests out UNAM's Pablo as he was a fine sub in Canada.

I'm going to ask a stupid question:

Does Memo lose his eligibility after the pre-Olimpico, or do all guys who play in it automatically qualify for Olympic eligibility?

I heard he will be ineligible after the qualifying tournament.

If so, that totally sets up a Ochoa, Salcido/Marquez/Torrado and Nery overage situation.

Yes, I believe Nery should be in Beijing. His play is phenomenal.

Next summer:

Gio, Nery, Memo and 8 more.

That is what it should be.

Thoughts?

Hernandez reminds me of the young Torrado still raw but you can see that he is a todo terreno Defensive mid. He does need more playing time and hopefully he gets it against Panama. But we need Torrado for the Brazil game you don't want to give Hernandez the responsibility of marking Kaka or Ronaldinho.

Vela was unlucky and was a victim of the schedule in Canada. Vela depends a lot on his speed to get by people. The thing is Mexico played against some really athletic teams like Gambia and Congo. Neither Vela or Gio could beat them often 1 v 1. Against Portugal Vela played a good game although he never got an opportunity to score. Against New Zealand the kid played great and linked up well with El Chicharito; the goalkeeper and some shots that went inches wide kept him from scoring. And against Argentina he was the only one who created anything. And again he was unlucky not to score in either of his two great chances. He doesn't have the explosion of Gio but Vela will be solid. I think his game will improve more once he gets his confidence back.

Marquez should go to the Olympics instead of Salcido because he is able to start the point of attack from the back. If Mexico wants to play the possession game than it starts from the back and without Rafa we don't really have a guy with that passing accuracy in the back. Catita is solid and should be paired up with Rafa. Esparza doesn't really create many chances but he is somewhat solid. And Aldrete to me has been impressive with Morelia recently and defensively he is improving tremendously.

And as far as Memo's eligibility goes

If you are born after January 1st 1985 you are eligible for the Olympics.

So yes Memo is eligible even though he will be 23 by the time the Olympics start.
