This is the thread for El Aguante Puma, that is, to support our national rugby team. I am not a rugby guy (saying that I used to play "tocata" would probably be an insult) but I follow the Pumas, especially since 1999. Although most of them are professionals rather than amateur, I think they still have that amateur spirit and desire to breakthrough. We are respected, we are actually 5 or 6th in the World rankings and we have a unique opportunity to keep it going.

It's going to be difficult but The Pumas have the skill, quality, and mental strength to beat both France and Ireland. It's likely that much of the Pumas future in the RWC will be decided after tonight's opening match against France. If they lose, they will probably face the All Blacks in the quarters (provided the Pumas beat Ireland later in the group stage). If they win, they have a fantastic opportunity to make it to the semis. We'll see how it goes.
I'll kick myself for not having made a slot in my agenda for this event, and it's a shame that being so close to France, I wont be able to be there supporting. But I'am sure there'll be plenty of Argie support down there.
I am sure you'll be able to watch it somehow. The official site is

I don't think they have much of a chance against France, and especially with all the injuries they have. But the key match is Ireland. The Irish are tough, but I think the Pumas can beat them. Also, they shouldn't overlook Georgia, they play decent rugby over there.

Well, well, well. The Pumas are not playing an awesome match but they came out all guns blazing. That's the attitude man! They are scrambling and hustling for every ball, they are quick, they are fiery, what more can you ask??? Two more tries guys, please and the match is over.
France will improve in the 2nd half, that's almost sure. And they will probably score one or two tries, so the Pumas must keep their cool in the first 10-15 minutes. It's gonna be very close in the end and we must try to be ahead by at least 7 points (you know, referees may be prone to sway to the home side).
The best moment so far: when the Pumas sang the National Anthem. It was very emotional, some of the younger Pumas were shedding their tears but that's the way you sing and feel (palito para otro seleccionado...)
Aguante Pumas y que victoria que seria. Ojala loco!!!!!

OFF-TOPIC: My line-up for the Football World Cup 2010
Luis Scola
Leo Gutierrez - El Gordo Roncero - Mario Ledesma - Pepe Sanchez
Nani Corleto - Chapu Nocioni - Ficha Pichot
Manu "El Mago" Ginobili
Delfino - El Ninja Todeschini

What an amazing upset. I still don't believe it. I know we can beat France, but at their home in the world cup and with all the injuries, that was amazing.

Well hopefully they will finally get some recognition now both from the IRB and Argentine public, the Pumas are a world class team in rugby but they are consistantly ignored for a place in a big tournament.

I talked my cousin (whom lives in Argentina) after the Argentina - France match, and he said the majority of the Argentines were tuned in to the match. He said it was similar to a world cup soccer type atmosphere.:D
I couldn't believe it, but he said the city was at stand still during the match.

Yes. Hopefully they can keep it up and get some respect. If they can win the group, and maybe even make the semis, that would be awesome.
I would like to see the Pumas invited to join the three nations tournament (held yearly between New Zealand, Australia, South Africa). Make it the four nations tournament, with all the good teams from the southern hemisphere.
Los Pumas might have a tough time at first, but they've proven they can play tough against the best, and the tough competition would help them move up to the top level.

Habrá siete variantes respecto de la formación que debutó con un éxito ante Francia.
