Would you guys consider Willy Sagnol as one of the best defenders in the world. And, what club does he play for and is he a RD or a RD/LD (versatile)???
Also, what position was Cantona? ST or CF or Central Attack. Mid.?? What made him great his head? Hard shot? ...
Same thing as Cantona but for J.P Papin, Ian Wright, Rikkard, Gullit, Garcia Aspe.
I'd really appreciate it.

Sagnol plays for Bayern Munich and he is nowhere near world class. In my opinion he is their weak link.He plays right back and has never played anything else. He is decent enough defensivly, but has very limited ball skills and isn t very fast.
Cantona was at his best when he played as a supporting striker, wright behind the center forward.
He was simlply great on the ball. Heading wasn t his strenght although he did score some headed goals.
Gullit was similar to Cantona but a bit better. He also played as a second striker. He was taller, stronger and a better header of the ball. Cantona was MAYBE a bitt more creative. If you get the chance to see the 88 euro final you will know who Gullit was.Can you watch Eurosport?
Papin and Wright were centreforwards and natural
goalscorers.Wright was more atheletic, Papin had a better touch. I enjoyed more in Wright s play.Riijkard began as right back and ended as defensive MF. He was a great athlete with decent ball skills.I only watched Garcia Aspe 4-5 times but I can tell you that he was a very good MF with an excellent long range shot.

He was one of the best players in the Bundesliga this season also.

OK, let s compere him with his counterpart part on the left Lizarazu.LIZ is quicker, better on the ball, contributes more to the ofense and defends at lest as tough. If Sagnol is world class then LIZA is at least galactic.

If Sagnol is world class then LIZA is at least galactic. Sagnol contributes more to the offence than Lizarazu, he does more crosses and scores more goals. Statistically,(according to Kicker anyway)Sagnol was the best player in the Bundesliga in the 02/03 season.

The great thing about football is that you can't put it into statistics. Wily is simply very stift and doesn't have a lot of feeling in his feet. Maybe he puts in a lot of crosses, but where do they end up?

Well, thats your opinion. Before about January this year, I didn't think Sagnol was good either. But when he got his chance in Bayern's first team he played well and is now a regular starter.

Ruud Gullit wasn't a second striker, he was an attacking midfielder much more a Zidane than a Cantona. At the start and end of his career he played as a sweeper. He was a truly great player and if it hadn't been for his ligament injuries he could have been even better.

OK, we could argue this forever but here is my take. At his peak Gullit played right behind van Basten. Even if Zidane's style of play is diferent from Cantona's his favorit position isn't. When he plays for France only the CF is closer to the goal.Pires and Wiltord play on the wings and Makalele and Viera cover his back.At Real Raul plays this position so Zidane basicly starts as a left winger. He of course doesn't stay there , he moves all over the place and leaves the whole left side for Roberto Carlos to handle.
