It's a sad day as he was likely one of the best left backs in the world in his day, I thought, and would have been a NT starter had it not been for Lizarazu.

Why did his move to Bordeaux fall through ?i don't think the bordeaux rumors were ever serious. his club tried to transfer him all kind of places but he refused them all. even if he's "only" 33, he's had a long career... he's more interested in his life outside of football and just doesn't have the desire any more.
