*To the BigSoccer faithful: I only intend to write this as a means of joining multiple ideas into one, solid plan Jeff Cooper may or may not read. As the future owner of a Saint Louis team, I believe it will be his duty to hear us out*
Mr. Cooper,
I write this to you as a greeting of sorts. As the September 10 vote in Collinsville approaches, it would appear as though most major hurdles have been overcome, and with a City as eager as Collinsville on board, success is within reach. Congratulations!
It is imperative, however, that as the future owner of an Major League Soccer franchise in this city, you take the initiative to hear out the faithful fans of your franchise. From Day One, you ought to incorporate the views, opinions, and ideas of the fans who, already, support your vision to bring world class soccer to the Saint Louis region.
I have already noticed that the logo which you use for Saint Louis Soccer United has been floating around BigSoccer for a while, and I personally love it tremendously. You have incorporated the City's past into a sport which thrives on historical relevance in regards to rivalries, fan support, and tradition.
However, do not stop there. Listen to the needs and wants of the newly formed Gateway City Supporters Club, and not just the voices of those with deep pockets. Give them the ability and freedom to create a truly unique atmosphere at the Collinsville Stadium, something which has yet to be seen among the Saint Louis sports landscape.
Market your team as a winner from the start, and bring back all those talented Saint Louisans now plying their trade at other MLS teams or abroad. Let the people of Saint Louis know that you are serious about bringing the roots of American Soccer home. Convince the public that this is not some minor-league show. It is world class football, whether they are playing in the City of Saint Louis or not. And this is not the Rams.
Give the fans something to be proud of. Make our stadium the finest facility in the nation. Name our team based upon the great history of the region. Assemble a squad of the greatest players not only from Saint Louis, but also the world. Invest in Saint Louis' future. It doesn't have to monetarily, but rather through hard work and commitment, which I am confident in saying you have done thus far. Continue to show us all that this venture of yours is a real invest for the future of Saint Louis, American Soccer, and the men, women and children who love both so dearly.
Thank you.
