I'll just say that I think it's a masterpiece and leave it at that.

Was this the book that Luke Wilson was writing in The Royal Tannenbaums?

Despite a lukewarm review from Slate (http://www.slate.com/id/2174395/nav/tap3/) I'm hoping to get out and see this.

I was surprised the USA today reviewer didn't try to have sex with the movie he liked it so much. (http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/reviews/2007-09-20-jesse-james_N.htm)
It's running 71% on RT. Based on the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it is getting pretty polarizing reviews, people either really love it, or really hate it, case in point: "For fans who say they'd pay to watch Brad Pitt read the Yellow Pages -- well, your money might be better-spent on that."

Manhola Dargis, who I think has decent taste, and who I also think is the most intelligent reviewer at the Times not named Dave Kehr, pans it (http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/09/21/movies/21assa.html?ref=movies).

I can't stand her for reasons I can't fully explain.

Agreed.
Based on her not liking it I'm sure I will really like it.
