I hope this is the right place and I haven't seen this yet.

Yes, supposedly it is done PROVIDED Roma provide a bank guaranty for the transfer fee.

Always the annoying little details. Can't blame anyone for wanting assurance with the financial shape of many clubs today. If it does go through it seems like a good pickup for Roma. Chivu looked pretty good in the Champions League play I saw.

Both Roman clubs are on the edge of bankrupcy.

Actually, Lazio's financial problems have recently been resolved.

The "annoying little details" part was sarcastic. Please note the second sentence.
"Can't blame anyone for wanting assurance with the financial shape of many clubs today."

Congrats to Roma. There are not many defenders in the world better than Chivu. Unfortunately for Milan they have two of them and thus they didn't bid for him.

Doesn't sound very unfortunate for Milan to me.
I do agree that Chivu is a high quality defender and he and Samuel give Roma a very solid central defense.

Whoops, hold on a second ...
Roma hit by transfer band

Apparently, Roma still owes money to a Peruvian club for a player they bought two years ago who didn't pan out. FIFA has stepped in and won't allow Roma to sign any international players (including Chivu) until they pay up. It's less than a million dollars though, so I doubt it'll hold things up for long.

Anyone here happen to know what Roma's total debt is?
I've heard a 58 million figure, but that seems a bit much.

I missed out on the confirmation, but apparently the hold-up on the Chivu contract has been resolved. In the meantime, Roma is also in the running for another Romanian, Cosmin Contra.

Seems as if Roma's financial difficulties could still scrap the deal ...

Hmmm, this could edge Totti ever closer to Milan.
Interesting. ;)

and send us Rui Costa??? no thanks!! he's done as a player, he left his best years in Firenze, just like Figo left his best football in Catalunya!

Rui Costa had a bad first year in Milan but he made up for it last year with an excellent year. But it is true he may be on the downside of his career but he would still probably start for Barca. Who will be ahead of him in CM? But anyway, even if Totti doesn't come, Milan will be resigned to the fact that all we got is KAKA. ;)

XAvi Gerard and even Luis Enrique are way better than him as "brains", let alone the fact he should need an adjustment period.

I'm not impressed with Xavi. I've seen him play many times and he doesn't have half the class that Rui has. He may be a better ball winner than Rui but then again who isn't. Gerard is way to injury prone to rely on. And whereas, Rui is almost over the hill, Luis Enrique has been sitting at the bottom of the hill for 2 years now.
