UEFA president Michel Platini wants the Champions League final to take place at the weekend rather than on a Wednesday night, he told reporters on Thursday.

Platini, who took over as president of UEFA earlier this year said at a media briefing: "At the final in Athens in May I was astounded that there were no families and children at the match. This would change if it was played at the weekend."

The Champions League, and previously the European Cup final, have traditionally been scheduled for a Wednesday night since the first final took place in 1956.

I think, it's a good idea !!

Michel Platini does not have the intelligence to be head of UEFA, he is going to mess everything up with all his stupid ideas :(

Why do you think this idea is stupid?

It makes sense business-wise and there will be fewer people having to miss the match;the CL final is broadcast worldwide and weekday evening is quite inconvenient for a lot of non-Europeans.

That said,I don't think there should be any change just because I'm conservative when it comes to football.

Oh,why did you change your avatar btw?I think even Platini would prefer the previous one.

Just because some idea comes from Platini doesn't mean it is bad, you know ;)

I would actually rather see the final on a weekend, at least this can be tested one year. But also it's sad to skip the Wednesday-tradition, and where would the families be? Aren't most tickets given to sponsors and such.

Jack Warner is nothing more than a corrupt idiot. If he hates English it's because BBC revealed how corrupt he is.That's it.

I actually think this is a good idea. I'd be able to watch the game live and not be stuck at work.

a large chunk of the tickets go to uefa VIP's thats why.
the fans of the two teams got sold short with the tickets.
The greedy fat cats who run UEFA give alot of tickets to people who dont even give a f'ck about the two teams who qualify ,just to line their own pockets.

Of course, families and children will really add to the atmosphere of a European final...

Tough shit, it's a European competition for European teams. Why don't they play the copa libertadores in the afternoon so Europeans can watch it at prime-time? And make antipodean rugby and cricket teams play their tests in the middle of the night so we can watch them in the afternoon rather than having to get up at 6am.

not necessarily a bad idea. most leagues are over by the time the CL final comes. I still think tradition is too strong and the glamour of the "great European night" is too much... UEFA won't even try this.

Why do the match have to play on a Wednesday night in the first place? Having it played at weekend makes the whole thing more exciting, not to mention more people will be able to watch it.

I like the the idea...its sort of like a compliment to America's SuperBowl.

Why do the match have to play on a Wednesday night in the first place?

It just follows on from all of the other games being played mid-week. All this does is add another weekend onto the length of the season.

You don't really believe that, do you?

Yes, considering that nearly all the TV revenue, and all the ticket revenue, comes from Europe. Unless you're counting ESPN paying a pittance to show the games on tape-delay.

As long as it's at played under floodlights at night this idea is perfectly sound.

The bulk of the ticket allocation should also go to the supporters and not sponsors.

It just puts the CL above the domestic leagues, where it not belongs I think. financially it makes sense though, and if the CL final is to become a new euorpean superbowl as well I guess.
