So this weekend I had my ex-girlfriend from Dallas come up and visit for the holiday. Jesus, how I forgot about her being the most high maintenance woman of ALL time. I mean, an unbelievable princess. How I lasted four months with her is unfathomable. She bitched about everything to do with San Francisco...the weather, the politics, the dive bars, the dirty buses, the price of cabs, my friends, the lesbians, etc, etc. On her last day here I took her to the Mad Dog In The Fog, my local on Lower Haight where I watched nearly ever LFC match last season. I really only brought her there because it's a nasty old English Pub and contains elements of everything she had been complaining about. I ordered a pint of Stella and she got a glass of horrible red wine. As I sat around looking at anything but her, the only thing I could think about was the Saturday and Sunday mornings I spent in this place last year and how I really wanted a big 'ol English fry up while watching my favorite sports team ever.

No reply necessary, just wanted to rant. She's gone and I almost danced out of the train station when I dropped her off.

Please hurry up and start.

What's wrong with lesbians?

And yes, it's time to get going again.

Just to turn this into a random story thread: I was walking around the Magic Kingdom Sunday (one of the perks of moving to FL is the annual pass for in-state residents), and just outside Splash Mountain I was passed by a family of four wearing matching Everton home jerseys. After the appropriate wretching noises and whatnot, I turned around as they passed me, and they each had their first name and (I think) their age as the number on the back. How thoroughly disgusting. Anyway, I hollered over the crowd (to Becky #8, who looked more like she was 5 or 6 - typical for Blues fans to be a bit developmentally challenged) "Hey, Becky, don't blindly follow your parents, it's not too late to become a Reds fan", and her dad turned around and grinned at me. I must admit, I was a little disappointed, as I was hoping for at least a dirty look in exchage for my socially unacceptable outburst. Oh well.

You may have just saved young Becky’s future.
I too had a challenging childhood being raised in a blue meanie society. My granddad played with Dixie Dean in his 60 goal season. Then my favourite Aunt actually married a catholic for Christ’s sake. Well, someones sake. And my dad used to be King Billy for the lodge..!
Just look at me, I overcame a handicapped childhood, to become a true believer and a lifetime Red. Just a normal Scouser…!

I have been watching all of the replays on Best of Fox Sports World with my 14 month old daughter. She is attracted to the roar of the crowd and usually smiles when she looks at the tele.

I am drooling in anticipation for the season to begin...still haven't found my club yet, only started following EPL and soccer, in general 2 years ago. I am so addicted!!!

Cheers

Well, if "England" is listed as one of your favorite teams, it shouldn't take too long to find a club that entertains you.

:)

Kidding, kidding, kidding...I expect Sinner to pop up any minute now.

Stig thought this might be a euphemism but, alas, you have a daughter. Welcome, Patrick.

So, the 'Blue Meanies' were a reference to Everton? Lennon was a 'scouser'?

Learn something new every day - thanks.

The Beatles had no input in the creation of Yellow Submarine, apart from the cameo in the final scene, and I think the writers of the film were American. But during the Eleanor Rigby sequence, there is a derby match taking place.

Lennon wasn't a football fan (the namechecking of Matt Busby in Dig It aside), though I always thought Yes It Is was about a Bluenose who gets dumped by his Red-loving girlfriend:

If you wear red tonight,
Remember what I said tonight.
For red is the colour that my baby wore,
And what is more, it's true,
Yes it is.
Scarlet were the clothes she wore,
Everybody knows I've sure.
I would remember all the things we planned,
Understand, it's true,
Yes it is, it's true.
Yes it is.
I could be happy with you by my side
If I could forget her, but it's my pride.
Yes it is, yes it is.
Oh, yes it is, yeah.
Please don't wear red tonight.
This is what I said tonight.
For red is the colour that will make me blue,
In spite of you, it's true,
Yes it is, it's true.
Yes it is.
I could be happy with you by my side
If I could forget her, but it's my pride.
Yes it is, yes it is.
Oh, yes it is, yeah.
Please don't wear red tonight.

In spite of you, it's true,
Yes it is, it's true.
Yes it is, it's true.

Learn something new every day - thanks. No, I just tossed in Blue Meanies for fun. If you had the 'blue meanies' back then you were just having a bad day.
Lanky's right about John, he had other things on his mind than footy.
