It's not on the "New Yorker" web site, so you'll probably have to buy this weeks issue, but there is a pretty good piece on Bill James and "sabermetrics," which I think all of the Big Soccer attendance/ratings geeks (and you know who your are :) ) will get a kick out of. To get an idea about just how hardcore-geek James is :He thinks back to past loses by the Kansas University basketball team that still nettle him (he's taped all of their tournaments games and gone back over them, frame by frame, making a log of each possession):'I have this horrible compulsion to understand what happened.'
