Manchester United favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has retired due to a knee injury, according to Sky Sports News.
Solskjaer will be forever remembered in United folklore for scoring the dramatic winner in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999.
That goal was one of almost 130 he scored for The Red Devils after joining from Molde in a £1.5million transfer 11 years ago.
He made over 360 appearances for the club, but recent seasons have been blighted by injury.
The 34-year-old did maintain a level of fitness last season, scoring 11 goals as United won the title and reached the FA Cup final.
But he did not figure during the pre-season campaign after undergoing a knee operation over the summer.
This was expected to be his final season as a player at Old Trafford, but he has now decided to announce his retirement.

The mind boggles as to why this has come about so abruptly!
My guess is he wanted to make a decision before the window shut so we would still have time to find reinforcements. Probably wasn't sure if he would ever be fit, so he didn't want to leave us short. Seems like Ole to try to make the best decision for the club.

He made enough appearances for a winner's medal last season, right?
It's a shame he's retired, btw, especially considering how hard he fought to get back to fitness after his last major injury.

I had just bought his kit and then saw this on the news. Absolutely gutted. Been crying for 30 minutes.
He has to come on the pitch once more. Even just to stand there for 30 seconds. Just so we can say goodbye. He deserves that, at least.

OGS has done right by the team by retiring while the window was still open to make a new signing. He was a class, and his loyalty to the team can only be applauded. I hope he recovers and is fit to play in a well deserved testimonial in a few months.

Although I'm an Arsenal fan, I can still feel your pain for Ole. He was a great players, and always kept his class on the pitch.

I am speechless. Gutted. I really am just at a loss... Saturday is going to be the most emotional match of the season by a distance.
