Testimonial set for next preseason, perhaps against Bayern. (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_2994287,00.html)

Manchester United are set to grant striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a testimonial.

The popular Norwegian, whose injury-time Champions League winner against Bayern Munich in 1999 assured him of iconic status at Old Trafford, was forced to admit defeat in his battle to overcome a long-standing knee problem in August.

His retirement ended a 11-year playing association with the Red Devils, who he joined from Molde for a bargain £650,000 ($1.5m) in 1996.

Sir Alex Ferguson has already appointed Solskjaer to his coaching team and although his present brief is to develop United's young strikers, he has also spent time with the senior squad this season.

It is also anticipated the 34-year-old, who is settled in the UK with his young family, will become an ambassador for United.

Solskjaer is in the process of appointing a committee to arrange a testimonial and the club have confirmed he will get a chance to honour the United supporters for their backing throughout his outstanding career, which saw him net 126 goals in 366 appearances.

Although a precise date is yet to be set, it will form part of next summer's pre-season campaign in August, after Ferguson's squad have returned from their three-match tour of South Africa.

The opposition is also still to be confirmed, although contact is bound to be made with Bayern Munich to see if they would be interested in a re-match of the 1999 spectacular.

Would be awesome to have the game played with all the players from '99 - have Beckham, Yorke, Sheringham, Stam, Irwin, Schmeichel and others suit up and play one last time with Ole :)

I think I'm going to try and go to this game. My favorite United player ever. Should be great.

When I went on Saturday, the 2Olegend wasn't on the Stretford end. Where has it gone? I'm sure I looked but couldn't see it. Any ideas?

Would be sad if that's true.

I know. The only conclusion I could logically come to was that it had been taken down to make space for the Munich tributes that are all across it....

No...It has to due with SEF, They own the rights to the banners and decide what banners go up for the matches. Something on those lines.

The 20LEGEND Banner was Removed by SEF before the City game as was the Ciy ticker (on request from the club) All Banners up for the berties were to do with Manchester or the Babes 'Cept that bastard F.E.A.R Banner muck:mad:

SEF dont own the 'rights' to the banners they are "for the fans, by the fans" although some would disagree . SEF does decide what goes up and what doesn't although MUFC have requested a banner be withdrawn .

The 20Legend banner should be back up for Bolton.

This should be a sticky for years to come. There hasn't been a player who has shown such dedication, professionalism, whatever to the red shirt as Ole over the past 13 years. He had the chance to join Spurs, go into Europe, etc time and time again, yet he chose to be a squaddie at Manchester United, because he respected and loved this club. He is a model for any footballer who wants to be part of our team, and that's why this thread is sticked and should be forever.

I'm biased, because he is head and shoulders my favorite playerto ever don the red shirt. But this man was a f**kin legend at this club, and he did it the right way. If I'm being honest, he nearly brings me to tears every time I see old clips of him. I can't think of a player who's brought me more joy, more smiles, more happiness every time I see him score or see old clips of him doing so. He epitomizes every think modern footballers aren't - he's old school, he's a f**Kin absolute legend, and I really do miss him.
