What a joke. Maybe every new stadium that gets built for any sport we should create an MLS rumor for.

I don't want to bag on Miami or its fans, but the baseball idea is bad news.

It's not happening. The MLS doesnt want in a baseball stadium and that spot of land is right next to the Orange Bowl, land the Marlins don't want their stadium on. How about this idea: find an owner and build a SSS on that land. When that happens I'll take Miami seriously again.

Now I read that UM was thinking of working with a soccer team to upgrade the OB (which they didnt), but no where have I read that any soccer team was working with the Marlins.

The offside blog doesn't say it, and neither do any of the OB/UM articles. Can we at least base our rumors on something published?

From the Miami Herald article that the article links to...doesn't say Marlins but says baseball.

"Sanchez said Miami Mayor Manny Diaz spoke to Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber about placing an MLS team in a proposed duel baseball/soccer stadium on the OB land. Garber confirms ''preliminary discussions'' and having interest in returning to South Florida. But Miami isn't a favorite for one of two expansion teams for 2010."

I didn't see that, so thanks.

But since the Marlins were already upset about being placed next to the OB, I am sure with UM out of the way, they will push for Miami to knock down the OB so they can have all the land for the ballpark.

So I guess there is hope, but very little.

No more ground sharing with baseball. It's terrible, the Miami Dolphins hate it and the ball is rarely on the ground in football.

I've emailed both Sun Sentinel reporters who covered this. They say that there was interest from MLS in the OB itself and that there is still remote interest from MLS to use the OB even with the Marlins building next door.

Both of them said there was no sharing between the 2. The MLS team wouldn't play in the Marlins new stadium, just a upgraded OB.

Renovate the Orange Bowl and bring MLS Soccer.

A little off topic, but that looks like a really nice ballpark. Hope it gets built, it would be a little odd for a team to win 2 World Series in the past 10 years to move.
