an 8a kickoff!!!! i can sleep in!!!!
this is gonna be an interesting match. i'm quite curious as to our starting lineup. no reason why we shouldn't win but villa's got a couple of good strikers so it's by no means a gimme.

this will be a very dufficult away game. Pool got lucky to take all 3 points and we will need to be at our best to get the 3 points as well. Hopefully the lads are up for it.
Excellent that the game is live and not too early.

What's it been, three or four years since we've won there? I'll be just fine with a draw myself, and I'll be over the moon with a 1-0 victory.

Games on grounds like this, against teams like this, is where the title will be won and lost this season.
There has been massive improvement in the quality of many teams we will face this coming season, plus even more pressure on the so called 'mid tier' teams to overachieve and finish high in the table.
The three points the ref helped Liverpool win at this ground, could very well have a huge impact at the end of the season, the margin of winning the title this year will be that close I think.
We will have a good look at our new right back in this game I would imagine, if Ferriera is not fit.
Ashley Young will be playing on their left wing/forward, and he'll give nightmares to anybody that is caught out of position.
I shudder to think of what he'll do if we have Essien and Ben Haim on that side of the back line.
On the plus side, they're not defensively sound, so Drogba could have a very good game, I would also think that we'll see Pizarro start alongside him, this game being ideal for those two and their style.
It is early yet, far too early to say anything but three points is a poor result - but we must match wha tother teams do against the same opposition.
Why a Sunday kick off?

Ah - yes.
How self important we have become lately, we no longer start off in the second round.
Forgot about that.

great analysis
A. Young is a game changer and the thought of he and Agbonlahor (however the feck you spell it) running at Ben Haim, Terry and Ferreria does not sit very well with me
IIRC it has been at least 8 seasons since our last win at Villa

I always hated playing against Villa. We either come out with a draw or a loss. If Belleti starts and Alex or Carvalho manage to play hopefully our defense won't be so shaky. A.Cole is doing well fortunately and I've never been worried about the left side. I just hope that the Special One starts Essien at the midfield for once.

Last seasons games against them were both draws weren't they? Didn't we smash them in the cup?

We need to be at our best for this one. 2-1 Chelsea hopefully. I think we'll see Bel. and maybe Alex if Carvalho isn't fit. Please put Essien in the midfield! Please!

1-1 at home. Villa 4 shots 1 goal, us 89 shots 1 goal. We were all fecking over them.
0-0 away. We couldnt win and they didnt want to.

A. Young is a game changer...
Anyone see the pass he made to Maloney on the weekend for the winning goal? Absolutely brilliant.

It would be nice to see some people from the injury list make this game. At least a half of play for Sheva, as much Makelele as possible, etc. I think an away game might not be the best place to start two new defenders but at least Belletti should start if be a miracle we are up by 2 maybe Alex comes on to get some minutes.
